Manager, Corporate Research – Corporate Strategy Group

Founded by former strategy consultants, Capital One is a strategy-driven company. The Corporate Strategy group engages on a number of ultra-high-impact issues that drive the direction and performance of the company. Projects focus primarily on formulating enduring and profitable growth and value-enhancement strategies, while working within the business to ensure follow-through. The Corporate Research team (within Corporate Strategy) serves as Capital One’s competitive intelligence team, leveraging data, research, and financial analysis to provide company leadership with competitive and market intelligence, insights and advice, and strategic communications.

Position Summary

As a Manager on the Corporate Research team, you will collaborate with Strategy, Investor Relations, Finance, and various other teams across the company to provide research support, financial insight, and company-wide communication. You will lead a variety of different initiatives in a close team environment. Many of the day-to-day projects emphasize a need for strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Key to success in the role will be synthesizing information from various sources, driving analysis, and integrating findings into cohesive and insightful presentations and summaries.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead strategic projects for senior executives, conducting research, developing insights, and storytelling on high-impact topics
• Craft compelling, insight-driven narratives to influence and educate business leaders and stakeholders of all levels
• Solve a range of problems including high-level strategic questions, competitive positioning in the market, and deep dives (competitors, economic shifts, regulations, CCAR, etc.)
• Daily monitoring of financial, economic, and industry events to inform senior leadership how they impact Capital One
• Analysis of large financial data sets (Fed, FDIC, Census, etc.)
• Independently manage projects while contributing to group problem-solving
• Develop relationships and build successful partnerships across the enterprise

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• At least 3 years of experience in strategy, consulting, business analysis, finance or a combination

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in strategy, consulting, business analysis, or finance
• Ability to identify and solve problems independently in a constantly changing environment
• Fantastic interpersonal skills, with experience influencing senior decision making
• Demonstrably strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to take complex topics and information and message in a compelling way for varied audiences
• Strong ownership mindset with ability to both drive work independently and through others
• Team player with a positive attitude

Location & Salary

• McLean, VA: $164,800 - $188,100 for Manager, Strategy
• This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
