It takes deeply dedicated, intelligent and hard‑working individuals to maintain and exceed the high expectations for the exciting iPhone brand at Apple. You will lead a team of engineers and others in support of new product development as well as sustaining operations and ensuring the contract manufacturer readiness for high volume production. You will bring your knack and thirst to drive all technical operational issues related to optical sensing modules and components and related manufacturing processes to ensure effective closure of all issues to enable operational success of the entire new product introduction cycle and into the mass production phase.

Description

Scope of the role will be to lead the teams that:

  • Provide Technical leadership for manufacturing operations at multiple vendors and sites across tight timelines.
  • Drive contract manufacturer preparation for pre‑production builds.
  • Drive production process development, documentation, optimization and validation.
  • Develop and implement new technologies to improve production quality, capacity and efficiency.
  • Set standard practices and independently settle impact to design approaches and parameters to the final product.

Provides direction, mentorship and resources to other engineering groups and project leaders as well as factory technicians. Act as lead engineer on a variety of projects and participates in the project planning of major sub‑projects. Performs assignments in several of the following manufacturing engineering functions:

  • Design for Manufacturability – Provide early and ongoing manufacturing involvement to ensure manufacturability of new products.
  • Product Engineering – Work all phases of a product from concept to repeat manufacturing to end of life. Provide production support engineering with respect to technically complex testing methods, procedures and failure analysis.
  • Process Engineering – Design and develop technically complex processes to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Failure/Data Analysis – Plan, develop and implement technically complex procedures for the testing and evaluation of soon to be released products. Specify tests to be performed, compile data and make recommendations for product design changes and final assembly standards. This will include the use of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis using Six Sigma principles.
  • Provide regular VP level communication of technical health of program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering and manufacturing operations with 3 to 5 years of people management experience.
  • Relevant experience leading teams while introducing products into manufacturing and high volume production.
  • Hands‑on in the factory processes, with frequent time spent on the factory floor.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to concisely understand and communicate issues, and lead the team to a solution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required, including frequent presentations to executive leadership presenting top issues, solutions, recommendations and path to closure.
  • Ability to travel internationally 25%–35%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven technical skills, including experience and thorough understanding of wafer level, component, PCBA, module assembly, test, pack‑out processes, and process integration.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding, stamping, plating, micro‑machining, thin film coatings is a plus.
  • Highly motivated and able to drive issues to closure.
  • In‑depth knowledge in quality methodologies with common tools, including process capability statistical analysis.
  • Understand and tolerate stack‑ups for assemblies and part level.
  • Excellent problem solver, using structured problem‑solving methodology to assign root cause, plus develop and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situation or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.
  • Exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups.
  • Strong communicator who can translate high‑level goals into tangible action plans.
  • Excellent program management skills, experience working in a matrix environment.
  • Proven record of cost reduction, project management and engineering design required.
  • Direct experience leading any of the following functional engineering teams a plus: ME, EE, TE, Technical Operations, etc.
  • Experience working with international OEM partners.
  • Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $204,400 and $306,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
