Job description

Job Description

For a single team delivering components of distributed systems. Translates goals into a 1–2 quarter execution plan, sets coding, testing, and scalability practices, and provides hands‑on oversight of performance tuning and load/perf testing. Guides the team in building fault‑tolerant, in‑service‑upgradable components (redundancy, replication, failover) and in applying resiliency patterns (retries, circuit breakers, timeouts). Ensures robust observability (tests, alarms, dashboards, telemetry) and operational readiness via reviewed runbooks and standard procedures. Manages delivery of scoped features and correctness testing (including fault‑injection/brownouts), and directs implementation of data replication/synchronization to maintain integrity and availability. Leads team incident response and root‑cause efforts, enforces no‑customer‑downtime practices, and drives use of automation/IaC for troubleshooting. Oversees team security implementation (encryption, access controls), tracks remediation plans, verifies compliance documentation, and coaches adherence to change‑management plans for safe patching, updates, and rollbacks.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of scalable, reliable distributed systems, guiding the team on large‑scale data processing, state management, performance, and load testing.
  • Guide the development of fault‑tolerant services using redundancy, replication, failover, retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, and other resiliency patterns.
  • Oversee service reliability and operational readiness, including monitoring, telemetry, alerting, runbooks, recovery procedures, and availability testing.
  • Lead troubleshooting and incident response for system components, driving automation and operational practices that minimize customer disruption.
  • Manage security and compliance practices for cloud infrastructure, including access controls, encryption, remediation activities, and adherence to applicable standards.
  • Drive infrastructure and change‑management automation, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), patching, updates, and rollback processes.
Core Responsibilities
  • Own team execution across multiple projects and initiatives, managing priorities, resources, timelines, dependencies, and changing business needs.
  • Lead and develop team members through delegation, coaching, goal setting, performance management, and development opportunities.
  • Build strong partnerships across engineering, business, stakeholder, and customer teams to align expectations and deliver shared objectives.
  • Guide the team in solving moderately complex technical and operational problems using data, sound judgment, and established engineering practices.
  • Promote continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and skill development while identifying opportunities to improve team processes, tools, and workflows.
  • Support talent acquisition and development through candidate interviews, promotion assessments, and talent planning.
