Job summary

APM Terminals Elizabeth is seeking a seasoned leader to shape and drive our Community Relations & Social Investment strategy in a major U.S. port context.

You will work with local government, nonprofit partners, and senior leadership to advance sustainable community programs across the Port of New York and New Jersey. In this role you’ll manage grants, sponsorships, budgets, and stakeholder engagement, measuring impact with KPIs and dashboards.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of progressive experience in community relations, social investment, CSR, nonprofit leadership, government relations, or stakeholder engagement.
• Strong understanding of grant management, social investment governance, and compliance requirements.
• Experience managing budgets, evaluating sponsorship opportunities, and measuring program effectiveness and ROI.
• Excellent communication, presentation, writing, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to develop stakeholder narratives and partner with Communications/Marketing.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license and ability to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a long-term Community Relations & Social Investment strategy aligned with business objectives and values.
• Build, strengthen, and manage relationships with local government officials, Port Authority, community leaders, nonprofits, chambers of commerce, and civic partners.
• Lead planning, governance, and administration of social investment programs, grants, sponsorships, and community initiatives.
• Manage local stakeholder engagement activities, maintain stakeholder intelligence, and identify emerging priorities.
• Monitor and evaluate community impact, sponsorship effectiveness, budget utilization, and program outcomes with KPIs and dashboards.
• Collaborate with Communications and Marketing to support community storytelling and reputation management.
• Coordinate employee volunteer programs, internal engagement campaigns, and outreach initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute a long-term Community Relations & Social Investment strategy aligned with business objectives, stakeholder priorities, sustainability commitments, and company values.
• Build, strengthen, and manage relationships with local government officials, the Port Authority, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, chambers of commerce, and civic partners.
• Lead the planning, governance, and administration of social investment programs, charitable giving, grants, sponsorships, and community investment initiatives.
• Manage local stakeholder engagement activities, maintain stakeholder intelligence, and identify emerging issues, opportunities, and community priorities.
• Monitor and evaluate community impact, sponsorship effectiveness, budget utilization, and program outcomes through KPIs, dashboards, and reporting frameworks.
• Collaborate with Communications and Marketing teams to support community storytelling, social media engagement, digital content strategies, and reputation management efforts.
• Coordinate employee volunteer programs, internal engagement campaigns, and community outreach initiatives that strengthen employee involvement and organizational culture.

What We Are Looking For:

• Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset, curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business, Community Engagement, Marketing, or a related field.
• 5–10+ years of progressive experience in community relations, social investment, corporate social responsibility, nonprofit leadership, government relations, or stakeholder engagement.
• Strong understanding of grant management, social investment governance, community investment programs, and compliance requirements, including grant reporting standards.
• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, evaluating sponsorship opportunities, and measuring program effectiveness and return on investment.
• Excellent communication, presentation, writing, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills across diverse audiences.
• Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
• Ability to develop stakeholder narratives and partner effectively with Communications and Marketing teams to support reputation and engagement objectives.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license and ability to travel as required.

Salary: $90K - $120K
Location: Elizabeth, NJ (5 days in Office)
