Job summary

General Motors seeks a Cloud Engineering leader for Vehicle Autonomy to deliver a developer-ready PaaS, abstracting infrastructure for rapid autonomous software development. You will guide the elastic compute platform, including DNS and traffic routing, and lead a team that makes cloud-native compute a product.

The role requires expert Kubernetes (GKE preferred), large-scale platform experience, and strong leadership at the manager/principal level, with responsibility for 12,000+ namespaces

• Own operation and scaling of 12,000+ Kubernetes namespaces across 150+ clusters (GKE-based and on-prem).
• Build/maintain rapid deployment pipelines and abstracted storage to accelerate autonomous software delivery.
• Direct DNS and traffic engineering to optimize workloads for distributed development.
• Own full capacity lifecycle for cloud resources including planning and utilization tracking.

Job Description

You will lead the Cloud Engineering team within Vehicle Autonomy at GM to build an elastic compute platform dedicated to autonomous vehicle development and operation. Your goal is to deliver a developer-ready PaaS as a product, abstracting away infrastructure complexity so our engineers can iterate on their applications quickly and with minimal friction. You will lead a team that owns the cloud-native compute platform, including DNS and traffic engineering, which sits on the critical path of the Vehicle Autonomy engineering pipeline.

What You’ll Do

• Platform Evolution: Continuously develop and optimize the ACI PaaS layer to provide secure and resilient compute and storage capabilities for developers.
• Kubernetes Management: Own the operation and scaling of 12,000+ namespaces across 150+ clusters of GKE-based IaaS/PaaS layers and on-prem Kubernetes clusters.
• Developer Velocity: Build and maintain rapid deployment pipelines and abstracted storage layers to accelerate autonomous software delivery.
• Traffic Engineering: Direct authoritative DNS zones and records to optimize traffic for distributed development workloads.
• Capacity Planning: Own the full capacity lifecycle for cloud resources, including planning, provisioning, and utilization tracking.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Required: Expert-level experience with Kubernetes (GKE preferred) and container orchestration at scale.
• Required: Proven track record building "Platform as a Product" for large-scale engineering organizations.
• Required: Deep understanding of cloud-native storage, service meshes (Istio), and traffic engineering.
• Required: Proven leadership experience at the Manager or Principal-level scope.

• Experience with GPU-accelerated workloads and specialized substrate support in cloud environments.

Compensation

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.

• The salary range for this role: is $233,000 to $300,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
• Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
