Job summary

Tampa General Hospital seeks a Manager of Clinical Pastoral Education to oversee all aspects of the CPE programs under the Spiritual Health and Education Department. The role requires ACPE Educator credentials, leadership in a large academic medical setting, and collaboration with chaplains and supervisors across Florida.

Responsibilities include accreditation preparation, program evaluation, data reporting for Medicare, and on-site clinical presence with On-Call coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity or equivalent.
• ACPE Certified Educator and ACPE National Faculty Distinction.
• Board Certification by one or more certifying agencies.
• Minimum 5 years healthcare chaplaincy with leadership in a large academic medical setting.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare materials for ACPE accreditation and annual review.
• Review CPE handbooks for Level I–Supervisory programs to meet ACPE standards.
• Prepare Annual ACPE Report and engage PAG for program evaluation.
• Lead and direct ACPE Educator, residents and interns in the CPE program.
• Administer data processing for Medicare Reimbursement and reporting.
• Foster relationships with other CPE centers, Seminaries and judicatories.
• Recruit, evaluate and schedule residents and interns; mentor chaplains.
• Provide ongoing professional development for chaplains.
• Maintain clinical presence on assigned units and provide On-Call coverage.

Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Spiritual Health and Education, the Manager of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is responsible for all aspects, levels and reporting of the CPE programs at Tampa General Hospital. This role is an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) trained Educator with National Faculty Distinction and professional experience working within a complex academic healthcare system. Supports the TGH commitment to holistic and integrative care that addresses physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs, taking into consideration multiple elements of cultural and ethnic diversity, social conditions, systems and family issues. Responsible for performing job duties and implementing the mission, vision and goals of the Spiritual Health and Education Department and Tampa General Hospital.

Essential Functions:

• Plans process and prepares for material needed for continued accreditation by ACPE.
• Ensures CPE handbooks are reviewed annually and are specific for programs of Level I, II and Supervisory CPE to ensure compliance with ACPE requirements and standards.
• Prepares Annual Report for ACPE.
• Develops and works closely with the Professional Advisory Group (PAG) in program evaluation and development.
• Provides day-to-day leadership and direction to the ACPE Educator, Certified Educator Candidate (CEC), residents and interns in the CPE program.
• Independently acquires, processes and reports requested data to the Reimbursement department regarding Medicare Reimbursement.
• Develops and maintains effective working relationships and or communications with other CPE centers and CPE supervisors in Florida, seminaries and judicatories.
• Manages the recruitment, evaluation and scheduling of residents and interns.
• Works collaboratively with chaplains who provide mentoring to CPE residents and interns.
• Acts as a resource for ongoing professional development of chaplains.
• Maintains a clinical presence on assigned clinical units.
• Provides On-Call coverage to the department to include crisis management, scheduling adjustments, support for chaplains and disaster management roles as needed.
  

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity or equivalent.
• ACPE Certified Educator, ACPE National Faculty Distinction, and Board Certification.
• Successful completion of 4 Units of CPE (Internship I, Residency II-IV) with an accredited ACPE site. Ordination and/or endorsement by an acknowledged ecclesiastical body.
• Board Certification by one or more certifying agencies (e.g. Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), etc.).
• Previous experience in ministry and five (5) years of healthcare-based chaplaincy experience. At minimum of those, two (2) years beyond Certified Educator Candidate (CEC) training in a leadership role in a large, complex academic medical setting. Hospital-based positions require previous healthcare experience in the appropriate pastoral care area such as mental health, women’s services, trauma, pediatrics, etc.
