Job summary

Description

The Manager, Cancer Registry is responsible for the growth and effectiveness of the JPS Health Network Cancer Program by professionally managing the day-to-day operations of the Oncology Data Center, assisting in developing, coordinating, and implementing new programs to enhance the Cancer Program. The job will supervise the Oncology Data System to promote quality care of cancer patients while ensuring compliance with all requirements for an approved Cancer Program as set forth by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS COC).

Typical Duties

• Communicates with staff and keeps staff current with appropriate information through staff meetings, newsletters and announcements. This includes educational needs identified for the unit, information from process improvement activities, new technology/therapy/service, plant technology, safety program, findings from Infection Control, unit goals, objectives and standards, and unit problems and their resolutions.
• Manages employees to include interviewing, work allocation, orientation and training, staff development, problem resolution, evaluating performance, making recommendations for personnel actions, and motivating employees to achieve peak performance.
• Participates in the planning, development and management of operational and equipment budgets annually. Provides financial variance analysis reports in a timely manner. Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures according to budget limitations.
• Anticipates the purchase or replacement of equipment and software with input from staff and physicians. Assists with vendor selection for new equipment and software based on departmental needs. Implements the equipment and software purchase process.
• Establishes relationships with other supervisors throughout JPS Health Network to develop a network and mentoring opportunities. Develops relationships with other departments within JPS Health Network and looks for opportunities for integration or interaction.
• Answers requests for data, prepares routine and special reports as required by the Commission on Cancer. Provides information to the Medical Staff and Administration on cancer-related statistics for use in program planning, development and end-results studies.
• Assists the JPS Health Network Cancer Committee and Quality Management Department in planning and conducting patient care evaluation studies to ensure quality care.
• Serves as a liaison to the Medical Staff, Administration, other hospital departments and outside agencies on cancer-related activities. Serves as a member of the JPS Health Network Cancer Committee.
• Completes competencies as defined by department/unit and/or clinical specialty area.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• Associate’s Degree in a related field from an accredited University.
• 5 plus years of experience working in an ACOS COC Approved Cancer Program.

Preferred Education and Experience

• 2 plus years of experience managing a Cancer Registry department in an American College of Surgeons (ACoS), Commission on Cancer (COC) Approved Cancer Program.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training

• Certified Tumor Registrar credential issued by the National Cancer Registrars Association.

Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training

• National certification in a second health-related field. Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), etc.)
