Job Summary:

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Manager for Cancer Registry.

Shift/Hours: Full Time, 40 hours/week, 1st shift, 8:00AM - 5:00PM with flexibility.

Following the initial full time in office training period, the role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with one in office day per week.

Job Description:

The Manager for Cancer Registry protects cancer registry data integrity, timeliness, and federal plus multi-state reporting compliance through operational leadership of cancer registry services, staff supervision, AI-enabled workflow oversight, and oncology program governance support. This role is accountable for managing and maintaining internal Oncology Quality Standards compliance through influence and partnership with physician and operational collaborators.

Cancer Registry Operations Oversight:
  • Provides operational leadership for cancer registry staff through workforce planning, performance management, competency validation, training, mentoring, professional development, and corrective action as needed. Promotes accountability and adherence to established expectations.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains registry-related policies, procedures, and standard work. Conducts routine and annual review to ensure alignment with workflows, standards, and program requirements.
  • Monitors registry work queues, backlog, productivity, abstraction timeliness, edit resolution, follow-up completion, and submission readiness to ensure team capacity is aligned with required deadlines and reporting expectations.
  • Ensures registry staff onboarding, competency validation, continuing education, and certification-related development are maintained to support abstraction quality, coding accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitors AI-enabled registry system performance, identifies workflow or output concerns, escalates system/vendor issues as appropriate, and supports ongoing optimization to ensure technology-enabled workflows produce reliable and efficient registry operations.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the cancer registry including case finding, abstraction, follow-up, data submission processes, audit responses, and meeting reporting requests. Ensures workflows are executed consistently and efficiently while meeting expectations for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Lessons learned from audits are used to improve workflows.
  • Ensures consistent adherence to AI-enabled cancer registry workflows and prevents regression to manual processes. Oversees validation of AI-generated outputs and supports optimization of workflow performance and efficiency.
  • Ensures accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of cancer registry data and reporting. Uses metrics to benchmark performance.
  • Participates in abstracting, follow-up, and analytic/reporting activities if needed to meet program goals and requirements.
Data Integrity, Reporting, & State Registry Interface:
  • Maintains operational accountability for cancer registry compliance with applicable state reporting requirements, registry standards, audit expectations, and organizational data integrity requirements.
  • Maintains accountability for submissions to the Kentucky, Indiana, and future states’ Cancer Registries and serves as the primary point of contact for communication, inquiries, and audit-related activities.
  • Ensures registry data requests are reviewed, prioritized, assigned, and fulfilled using appropriate definitions, privacy safeguards, and data governance expectations.
  • Supports accurate interpretation of registry data for quality, operational, research, physician-facing, and external reporting needs.
  • Manages overall internal registry data requests by distributing requests to registry team and monitoring timeliness and accuracy of reporting.
  • Provides oversight of registry data privacy and governance practices, ensuring appropriate approvals, safeguards, and regulatory requirements are met for data access, reporting, and research‑related activities.
Oncology Program Standards & Governance:
  • Serves as the primary operational liaison between physician leadership, cancer registry operations, oncology quality initiatives, and organizational governance structures.
  • In partnership with physician leadership and oncology governance committees, coordinates development, selection, implementation, monitoring, and sustainment of oncology program standards.
  • Partners with physician leadership to translate oncology program standards into measurable requirements, accountable work plans, data definitions, monitoring processes, and sustainment expectations while facilitating accountability through structured governance processes, action tracking, status reporting, and escalation of barriers to appropriate leadership.
  • Develops and maintains the operational infrastructure needed to support oncology program standards, including project charters, data definitions, timelines, documentation, status reporting, meeting materials, action tracking, and sustainment monitoring.
  • Collaborates with physicians, clinical teams, and operational leaders to support execution of oncology program standards and projects. Influences stakeholders to achieve defined goals and facilitates corrective action when needed to support accountability.
  • Identifies gaps in standard adherence or project execution and coordinates corrective action, escalation, and follow‑up through appropriate operational and physician governance channels.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Certified Oncology Data Specialist. (ODS-C)
Specialized Knowledge:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cancer registry operations including case finding, abstraction, follow-up, coding, and reporting standards.
  • Strong understanding of cancer-related medical terminology, anatomy, staging, and coding systems (e.g., AJCC, SEER).
  • Knowledge of data validation, quality assurance, and audit processes within a cancer registry environment.
  • Knowledge of registry data governance principles, including appropriate data definitions, data release, privacy safeguards, and interpretation of registry data for internal and external use.
  • Ability to direct registry operations and allocate staff resources to meet abstraction, follow-up, reporting, and regulatory timeliness requirements.
  • Knowledge of registry work queue management, backlog monitoring, abstraction timeliness, edit resolution, follow‑up completion, and submission readiness.
  • Knowledge of policy development, standard work design, operational implementation, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of oncology program accreditation standards (e.g. CoC, QOPI) and experience supporting project selection, data gathering, analysis, implementation, and monitoring
  • Advanced proficiency with registry systems, reporting tools, Microsoft Office applications, database management, and data analysis technologies.
  • Ability to support staff onboarding, competency validation, continuing education, and certification-related development for oncology data specialists.

  • 3 years Certified Oncology Data Specialist
  • 3 years leadership, supervisory, or management experience
  • 2 years experience leading or coordinating oncology accreditation, quality, regulatory, governance, or program improvement initiatives
