Goldfish Swim School in New York seeks a Management Trainee – Aquatics to join the Manager Development Program. This entry point develops leadership and operations skills to oversee deck operations, support instructor development, and uphold swimmer safety and progress.

You will work with the AGM-Aquatics and GM to learn, coach, and grow into a Manager, with hands-on responsibilities and shifts that fit an aspiring leader’s path.

Qualifications

• 0–1 years of experience in aquatics or youth programming.
• A natural coach who gives feedback early, often, and constructively.
• Comfortable with digital tools and picking up new systems quickly.
• Safety-first mindset with the ability to lead a team calmly under pressure.
• Required Lifeguard Certification through Goldfish Swim School, if not already.
• Must be available for evening and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

• Keep lessons running on time, on brand, and at the highest level of quality every shift.
• Observe instructors and deliver constructive coaching feedback for skill development.
• Assist with attendance and performance data, flagging concerns for proactive adjustments.
• Communicate pre-shift expectations to instructors, lifeguards, and deck supervisors as directed.
• Guide new hires from day one through training to set up for success.
• Support safety culture on deck and understand EAP procedures.
• Assist in leading safety trainings and serve as Manager on Duty as assigned.

Job Title: Management Trainee - Aquatics

Reports to: General Manager

FLSA Status: Part time, Non-Exempt

Summary: The Management Trainee – Aquatics is an entry point into Goldfish Swim School's Manager Development Program, built for talented instructors and aquatics professionals who are ready to take the next step in their careers. In this role, you will work alongside the AGM-Aquatics and General Manager to develop the leadership and operational skills needed to oversee deck operations, support instructor development, and uphold the highest standards of swimmer safety and progress. This is a hands-on learning experience designed to grow you into a Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Keep lessons running on time, on brand, and at the highest level of quality every single shift.
• Observe instructors during lessons and learn to deliver specific, constructive coaching feedback that supports skill development and accurate swim evaluations.
• Assist with monitoring attendance and performance data, flagging patterns or concerns to the AGM – Aquatics so adjustments can be made proactively.
• Help communicate pre-shift expectations to Instructors, Lifeguards, and Deck Supervisors as directed by the AGM or GM.
• Guide every new hire from their first day through completed training, so they feel supported and set up for success from the start.
• Learn and actively reinforce the school's safety culture on deck — understanding the procedures, mindset, and standards expected of every team member, as guided by the AGM – Aquatics.
• Become familiar with the Emergency Action Plan and support EAP training efforts so all staff can execute safety procedures confidently — working toward the ability to lead these trainings independently.
• Serve as Manager on Duty during assigned shifts under the direction of the AGM – Aquatics or GM, supporting pool deck, front desk, and facilities operations and ensuring every area is running at the Goldfish standard.
