Job summary

Thomson Reuters Labs in Toronto is seeking a Manager, Applied Research to lead a team of scientists and research engineers focused on AI-driven information retrieval and NLP solutions.

You will translate research into production systems, shape an AI‑driven product roadmap, and collaborate with product and engineering leaders across a global enterprise.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant discipline or a Master’s degree plus comparable experience.
• 8+ years hands‑on experience building IR/NLP systems for commercial applications.
• Strong experience in GenAI/ RAG/ LLM.
• Prior management experience coaching and developing high‑performing teams.
• Demonstrated record of delivering AI solutions at scale in enterprise environments.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and align AI initiatives with business goals.

Thomson Reuters Labs experiments, builds, and delivers applied research in informational retrieval and natural language processing. We collaborate closely with product and domain experts to identify compelling solutions that bridge user needs and technical feasibility. Our work powers next‑generation tax, accounting, and audit compliance software used by tax professionals and corporates worldwide.

About the Role

Manager, Applied Research

• Manage: Direct the efforts of a team of applied scientists and research engineers, fostering a high‑performance culture and driving career development through servant leadership and coaching.

About You

Basic Qualifications

• Publications at top conferences such as ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, SIGIR, KDD.
• Advanced proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala.
