Job summary

Blue Shield of California seeks an experienced Accounting Manager to lead the Corporate Financial Accounting & Reporting team. You will oversee accounting and financial reporting for subsidiaries, manage a team of accountants, and ensure month-end close, reconciliations, intercompany activity, and audit support are executed to high standards.

You will collaborate with Finance, Tax, Treasury and business partners to deliver accurate, timely, and well-controlled reporting in a complex multi-entity

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or equivalent.
• CPA designation or advanced degree preferred.
• At least 7 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including 2 years of management.
• Healthcare, provider group, medical group, managed care, or multi-entity accounting experience.
• Comprehensive and current understanding of US GAAP and ability to apply guidance to complex transactions.
• Experience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany accounting, consolidations, financial statement support, and audit documentation.
• Excellent collaboration and oral/written communication skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Able to prioritize work to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel; ERP system experience (Oracle, Workday, Great Plains) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of accountants and oversee accounting and financial reporting for subsidiaries and affiliated entities.
• Lead month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany activity, and consolidations.
• Provide audit support and deliverables for external and internal stakeholders.
• Partner with Finance, Tax, Treasury and other business partners to ensure accurate reporting.
• Support entity-level accounting and auditable control processes.
• Drive process improvements and ensure adherence to US GAAP.

Your Role

The Corporate Financial Accounting & Reporting team is responsible for the recording and reporting of financial information for Blue Shield of California and its subsidiaries. The Accounting Manager will report to the Assistant Controller. In this role, you will manage a team of accountants and be responsible for accounting and financial reporting activities for subsidiary and affiliated entities, including entity-level accounting, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany activity, audit support, and reporting deliverables. This role will partner closely with Finance, Tax, Treasury, and other business partners to support accurate, timely, and well-controlled financial reporting across a complex legal entity structure.

Your Knowledge and Experience

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or equivalent
• CPA designation or an advanced degree preferred

This role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week. Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in-office time based on business need.
