Job Description

Job Summary: Managers in Software Engineering are responsible for overseeing application development deliverables, including unit design, coding, and testing. They work closely with technical leads and project managers to define and clarify requirements, create solution approaches based on business needs, and provide recommendations on scope and effort. The role involves agile application development utilizing open-source tools for continuous integration and delivery, and interfacing with cross-functional teams such as analysts, developers, QA engineers, product owners, and operations personnel. Managers ensure development work adheres to Visa's methodologies and security requirements, and are responsible for creating documentation and maintaining relationships with global development teams.

All roles require digital fluency, including the ability to work with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) to support everyday work.

Key Responsibilities

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
  • People Management:2+ years of experience directly managing software engineering teams, including coaching, performance management, career development, hiring, and team growth.
  • Delivery Leadership:Proven track record leading agile application development, system design, integration testing, release readiness, and production deployments across multiple stakeholders and dependencies.
  • Architecture & Cloud:Experience leading mission-critical, large-scale production systems, with 3+ years building and operating cloud-native platforms on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Application Development:Strong technical foundation in full-stack, n-tier application development using Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, microservices, and REST/gRPC APIs.
  • Data Platforms:Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle, NoSQL databases, and GCP data services such as Spanner, Bigtable, Firestore, Pub/Sub, or Dataflow.
  • DevOps & Reliability:Strong understanding of CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes/GKE, cloud networking, IAM, security, infrastructure as code, observability, SRE practices, and production incident management.
  • Scalable Platforms:Experience with multi-region, active-active, high-throughput, streaming, or event-driven platforms.
  • Modernization:Experience modernizing legacy applications or migrating workloads from on-premises environments or other cloud platforms to GCP.
  • Regulated Environments:Experience delivering software in regulated or high-compliance environments, such as PCI or SOC 2.
  • Global Collaboration:Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships and deliver outcomes with geographically distributed engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Additional Credentials:Exposure to FinOps and cloud cost optimization; GCP certification such as Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Developer is a plus.
Information for US Applicants

For roles located in the US, the estimated salary range for this position is $153,700.00 to $ 246,200.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.

This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
