Job summary

ABF Freight is seeking an Operations Supervisor for its Management Training Program, focused on training in all operational aspects across the U.S. After 20 weeks of training, successful candidates will manage resources for safe loading/unloading at one of our 240 service centers.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and have some knowledge of freight handling. This is a salary position with biweekly compensation and requires flexibility in relocation.

Job Description

When joining our Management Training Program, you will be hired as an Operations Supervisor. During this 20‑week program, you will be trained on every aspect of our company and industry from a service center perspective. You will work at one of our 240 nationwide Service Centers. Willingness to relocate is key.

The training focuses on learning the role of front‑line operational supervisors and gaining new insight into safety, maintenance, and transportation procedures. You will observe supervisors during operational shifts (inbound, outbound, city, and DC) at an ABF Freight Service Center. You will also have a glimpse into Sales by accompanying Account Managers on client presentations to learn how to proactively manage ArcBest accounts. After training, you will be placed in one of our more than 240 facilities across the continental United States as an Operations Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and control available resources to ensure timely, damage‑free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on assigned shifts.
• Maintain appropriate load plan and ensure proper load balance for safe vehicle operation.
• Assign job tasks to workers according to unloading and loading schedules.
• Coordinate work assignments and monitor performances.
• Provide training, performance feedback, and disciplinary recommendations as needed.
• Provide a clean, safe working environment for all personnel and visiting customers.
• Foster safe handling, loading, unloading, and storage of hazardous materials.
• Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment.
• Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.

• Other duties and projects as assigned.
