Job summary

SecureSky, Inc. is seeking an experienced Managed Detection and Response (MDR) Operations Manager to lead our SOC/MDR Operations team in Omaha.

You will supervise Cybersecurity Specialists and Threat Analysts delivering threat monitoring, triage, detection, and response for clients using Microsoft Sentinel SIEM/SOAR and Defender XDR. The role emphasizes process improvement, staff training, escalation management, and content/threat intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience leading SOC/MDR teams, preferably in MSSP.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Sentinel and Defender XDR is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day SOC/MDR Operations and supervise Cybersecurity Specialists and Threat Analysts.
  • Refine MDR service delivery, workflows, and escalation processes.
  • Manage technical resources such as Sentinel analytics rules, dashboards, and automations.
  • Serve as escalation point for high-severity incidents and ensure quality communication.
  • Develop onboarding and staff training programs, support certifications.
  • Prepare threat landscape analyses and proactive hunting guidance.
  • Oversee performance management and career development for direct reports.

Managed Detection and Response (MDR) Operations Manager

SecureSky, Inc. is seeking an experienced Managed Detection and Response (MDR) Operations Manager to lead our SOC/MDR Operations team. As a leading provider of managed cybersecurity services, we specialize in MDR, Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM), and XDR platform management built around the Microsoft security stack, including Microsoft Sentinel SIEM/SOAR and Microsoft Defender XDR. This full-time, permanent position is based at our Omaha, Nebraska office.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead our SOC/MDR Operations team, directly supervising our Cybersecurity Specialists and Threat Analysts who perform threat monitoring, triage, detection, and response for SecureSky's clients. This role collaborates closely with peers managing our Consulting and Client Engagement Teams. Key responsibilities include:

  • Team Leadership and Supervision: Manage day-to-day performance, scheduling, and coverage (including day, evening, and weekend shifts) for a team of Cybersecurity Specialists and Threat Analysts.
  • SOC Operations and Process Management: Refine and enhance service methodologies, escalation workflows, and Managed Security Services operations processes to improve consistency and quality of MDR service delivery.
  • Technical Libraries: Manage and optimize technical resources such as Microsoft Sentinel analytics rules and queries, dashboards, SOAR automations, and policy guidelines.
  • Escalation Management and Quality Assurance: Serve as an escalation point for complex or high-severity incidents, review investigation quality, and support client communications.
  • Staff Training and Certification: Develop onboarding and ongoing internal training programs covering both technical skills and soft skills, and ensure staff achieve and maintain required certifications.
  • Content and Threat Intelligence: Prepare threat/risk landscape analysis and technology feature content and guide the team's proactive threat and exposure hunting program.
  • Supervision and Performance Management: Administer performance management, career development, and skills enhancement for direct reports.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Providing threat detection and response and cloud-based cyber risk management, ideally within a SOC or MDR/MSSP environment.
    • Work history with a third-party cybersecurity service provider in a client-facing role.
    • Supervising and developing technical staff, including scheduling and coverage across shift-based operations.
    • Prior work with Microsoft Sentinel and Defender XDR suite is advantageous; Microsoft certifications (or equivalent) preferred.
