Job Summary

The Mammography Technologist I is responsible for performing screening and diagnostic mammography procedures to assist in the detection and diagnosis of breast diseases. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency, adherence to safety protocols, and a commitment to patient-centered care. The Mammography Technologist I works collaboratively with Radiologists and other healthcare professionals, ensuring accurate imaging and patient comfort while maintaining compliance with state, federal, and regulatory standards, including FDA/MQSA and ACR requirements.

Essential Functions
  • Performs mammography imaging procedures, ensuring high-quality screening and diagnostic images through proper positioning, technique, and compression.
  • Adheres to safety protocols, radiation protection standards, and infection control guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Ensures equipment functionality and maintenance, performing routine quality control testing per ACR and FDA/MQSA requirements.
  • Reviews physician orders and patient history, ensuring all mammography procedures are correctly ordered, verified, and acknowledged.
  • Educates patients on breast health, self-exam techniques, and procedure expectations, addressing concerns with professionalism.
  • Assists radiologists with specialized mammography procedures (FNA), needle localizations, and biopsies, while maintaining sterile technique.
  • Prepares patients for invasive mammography-guided procedures, providing clear instructions and post-procedure care guidance.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and image storage as required by state, federal, and accreditation regulations.
  • Manages mammography inventory and supplies, ensuring cost-effective use and proper stock levels for daily operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of experience in radiologic imaging required
  • 2-4 years experience as a mammographer in an acute care hospital setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in mammographic positioning, imaging techniques, and radiation safety standards.
  • Strong understanding of FDA/MQSA, ACR, and state regulatory compliance requirements for mammography.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and provide patient education with empathy and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of aseptic and surgical techniques for mammography-guided procedures.
  • Attention to detail in documenting patient information, reports, and image storage requirements.
  • Proficiency in PACS, electronic medical records (EMR), and mammography equipment operation.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills in technical troubleshooting and patient care situations.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist as applicable by state required
  • ARRT Radiography Certification required and
  • (M) ARDMS or ARRT - Mammography certification or eligibility to obtain within six (6) months of hire required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required
