The Mammography Technologist plays a vital role in supporting this mission by performing mammography imaging examinations ordered by physicians and delivering high-quality patient-centered care.

In the Diagnostic Imaging Department at our West Houston Imaging Center, the Mammography Technologist provides safe, accurate, and efficient mammography services while supporting clinical operations, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and quality initiatives. The Mammography Technologist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure exceptional patient care and imaging outcomes. As a Mammography Technologist, you will contribute to a patient-focused environment while maintaining technical excellence and operational effectiveness across assigned imaging areas.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's level degree (preferred), two or more years of experience as a qualified Mammography Technologist, and an advanced registry in Mammography. Candidates should demonstrate strong technical knowledge, patient care skills, critical thinking abilities, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Shift / Hours: Monday - Friday (rotating Saturdays) / 0830 - 1700

Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Perform mammography imaging examinations ordered by physicians
• Perform patient care activities within scope of practice including POCT, IV insertion, patient interviews, assessments, discharge education, transportation, medication preparation, and medication administration
• Ensure patient, family, visitor, and staff safety by monitoring the environment and following established safety procedures
• Screen patients and manage clearance processes for implanted devices while completing event reporting and Stop the Line requirements
• Protect patients from ionizing radiation following ALARA and Image Gently guidelines and monitor technical scanning parameters
• Recognize patient distress and assist with emergency response teams including DIURT, MERIT, nurse, physician, and Code Blue responses
• Adhere to infection control standards and utilize sterile or aseptic technique when applicable
• Administer contrast agents according to manufacturer standards and the six rights of medication administration
• Apply age-specific criteria while performing patient care duties
• Recognize critical findings and promptly notify interpreting radiologists

Clinical Operations & Documentation

• Demonstrate flexibility to support patient care needs including early arrivals, extended shifts, rotational call coverage, and emergency ride-out team assignments
• Travel to off-site patient care facilities including Bellaire Imaging Center, West Houston Imaging Center, and CABI as assigned
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of imaging rooms, dressing rooms, and work areas
• Stock, transport, and distribute supplies throughout assigned areas
• Monitor radioactive material levels and decontaminate work and patient care areas when necessary
• Dispose of linens, contrast materials, disposable coils, and related items according to regulations
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements
• Ensure all patient documentation is complete, accurate, and timely
• Accurately enter patient and exam information into clinical systems
• Verify patient identity using approved identifiers and established best practices

Critical Thinking & Strategic Alignment

• Apply critical thinking using clinical history, medical records, and imaging information to support patient and provider needs
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve clinical care questions and improve operational effectiveness
• Manage patient flow and scheduling capacity to minimize delays and improve on-time appointment starts
• Expedite patient care and reduce room turnaround times through proactive workflow management
• Follow section downtime procedures and report system failures to supervisors immediately
• Utilize communication tools responsibly including whiteboards, paging systems, telephones, email, and fax systems
• Ensure accurate, complete, and timely transfer of images to PACS
• Conduct verbal hand‑offs using SBAR methodology and complete shift reports
• Participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives to enhance workflow and patient experience
• Foster education through mentoring, coaching, training, and support of patients, students, residents, technologists, and staff

Compliance, Quality & Professional Development

• Suggest and support workplace efficiency improvements that reduce waste and improve operations
• Adhere to Joint Commission standards and applicable state and federal requirements
• Maintain all required licensure and certifications
• Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings
• Document incidents, variances, unusual circumstances, and patient concerns within required timeframes
• Complete mandatory education, safety preparedness, equipment orientation, and continuing education requirements
• Support compliance with American College of Radiology accreditation standards and recommendations

Technical Acumen

• Perform routine, advanced, immediate care, inpatient, and on-call imaging procedures with a high level of technical proficiency
• Verify imaging site, patient positioning, annotation accuracy, and imaging parameters
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and pathology to obtain required diagnostic information
• Manipulate imaging parameters to optimize image quality while maintaining efficiency
• Meet section productivity standards and minimize errors to benchmark levels
• Independently operate assigned equipment and complete quality assurance activities
• Collaborate with appropriate teams to resolve image quality issues and concerns
• Report equipment malfunctions to DI Engineering, Physics, supervisors, and managers with complete documentation
• Perform general x-ray procedures when patient needs require support
• Accurately enter exam charges, billable supplies, CPT and procedure codes, demographics, and related data into RIS, Clinic Station, CARE, whiteboards, and modality systems

EDUCATION

• Required: Graduate of an accredited Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Program.
