Job Description:

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Administrative Director of Imaging and Physical Therapy, Director of Radiology, and in consultation with the Medical Director, the Mammography Technologist performs professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures to apply prescribed Ionizing Radiation for Radiologic diagnosis, with latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Responsible for patient care, comfort and completion of required procedures. Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups.

May be assigned to work in other Imaging modalities.

Responsible for various clerical and Quality Assurance duties as assigned. Must maintain the department in compliance with rules and regulations set forth by governing agencies.

Follows AIDET and accepts reassignment and additional duties, when necessary, in a flexible and positive manner.

On call responsibilities required. If Technologist is trained in multiple modalities, (C.T., M.R.I., Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology), on call responsibilities will be assumed for two (2) of the aforementioned modalities during the call period. Example: (Ultrasound/Nuclear medicine or C.T./Radiography).
Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully an individual must have and maintain current licensure in Radiologic Technology and Mammographic Radiologic Technology from the State of California. ARRT certification in mammography is required. The individual must have ARRT certification in Mammography or obtain ARRT certification in Mammography within 1 year of date of hire. One (1) year experience preferred. Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • *Indicates Essential Function
  • 1 * Performs diagnostic Mammographic/Radiographic procedures using prescribed positions, technical factors and immobilization devices, as required, and is responsible for the quality of the images.
  • 2 * Selects, operates and maintains equipment as directed and provides Radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • 3 Assists in instruction of Radiologic Technology students in respective areas.
  • 4 * Responsible for delegated areas in the assignment of routine procedures.
  • 5 * Secures, maintains, and/or returns required supplies and radiographic accessories.
  • 6 May assist in the development of examination routines and techniques.
  • 7 * Maintains adequate records, as directed, and is responsible for maintaining a clean and neat work area.
  • 8 * Must follow all Radiation safety factors as they pertain to self, co-workers, physicians and patients.
  • 9 * Assumes responsibility for film processing procedures and techniques, and darkroom cleanliness.
  • 10 * Responsible for work area with regard to cleanliness, ordering and restocking of supplies.
  • 11 * Responsible for assessing film quality with regard to positioning and technical quality and determining need for extra views prior to Radiologist.
