Mammography Tech
Job title: Mammography Technologist — VA St. Louis Health Care System. Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an opportunity for a Mammography Technologist at the VA St. Louis Health Care System.
Position Requirements
- Degree/Education: Must have an associate degree or completion from a two-year radiography program.
- Experience: Must have 12 months of full-time experience within the past 24 months as a Mammography Technologist in a setting that meets the requirements of this TO.
- Current registration: Registered as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- BLS: BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Duties
- Receive patients, explain procedures, and provide appropriate care. Position the patient for the examination and make adjustments as required. Determine if special patient preparation is needed.
- Operate mammography units, including stereotactic breast biopsy units.
- Receive and interpret requests or instructions for mammography exams.
- Perform quality control inspections on all mammography units and film processors; perform daily warmups and maintain film files for comparison.
- Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms, including spot compressions and magnification views when necessary; set up and assist radiologists with needle localization and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures.
- Identify abnormalities and determine the need for additional views per department protocol; notify physician of significant exams requiring immediate attention.
- Maintain and clean mammography units, film processor, and cassettes; stock and maintain supplies; recommend repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.
- Make minor adjustments on equipment, differentiate artifacts, program examination equipment, and perform all mammography exams according to department protocols.
- Recognize emergencies and institute necessary procedures for resuscitation if needed.
