Job summary

Katmai seeks a Radiologic Technologist specializing in mammography to operate and maintain screening and diagnostic units in a military health system setting in Colorado. You will assist radiologists, perform quality control, and ensure patient safety and comfort.

The role requires JCERT accreditation, ARRT registration, BLS, and at least one year of mammography experience; includes exposure to MQSA standards, needle localization, and stereotactic biopsy support.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a radiologic technologist training program accredited by the JCERT.
• Current registration as a Radiologic Technologist by the ARRT.
• Minimum of 1 year of mammography experience or 200 exams in the last 2 years.
• Maintain current BLS certification and fulfill health/screening requirements.
• Meet credentialing and security requirements as listed by Katmai.

Responsibilities

• Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms with spot compression and magnification views when necessary.
• Position patients correctly and adjust as required for each exam.
• Determine if special patient preparation is needed.
• Receive and interpret requests; perform QC inspections daily to annual on units and processors.
• Set up and assist radiologists with needle localization and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures.
• Identify abnormalities and determine need for additional views; notify physician as needed.
• Maintain and clean imaging units and film processors per MQSA, FDA standards.
• Make minor equipment adjustments and program scanning techniques.
• Institute emergency measures when resuscitation is required.
• Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

SUMMARY

Operate mammography units to include stereotactic breast biopsy unit. Receive patients, explain procedures and provide appropriate care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms to include spot compressions and magnification views when necessary.


• Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination.


• Determine if any special patient preparation is required.


• Receive and interpret requests or instructions for mammography exams. Perform daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual quality control inspections on all mammography units and film processors. Perform daily warmups of all mammography units. Maintain mammography film files and hang films for comparison.


• Set up and assist radiologists with needle localization and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures.


• Identify abnormalities and determine need for additional mammography views per department protocol (either before or after consulting with department radiologists). Notify physician of significant exams requiring immediate attention.


• Maintain and clean mammography units, film processor, and cassettes on a regular basis in accordance with Radiology department, Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) standards. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for mammography exams and procedures. Recommend necessary monthly repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.


• Make minor adjustments on equipment. Differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize electronic equipment limitations. Program the examination equipment. Set up the machine and scanning techniques to be employed. Perform all mammography examinations according to department protocols.


• Recognize the need for and institute necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.


• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.


• Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate from a radiologic technologist training program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiological Education (JCERT).


• Current registration as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).


• Have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in mammography or required performance of two hundred (200) exams with the last two (2) years.


• Must possess and maintain current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS). This Certification must be current at all times, at no additional expense to the government.


• Must obtain and maintain the site’s required health screening and immunization requirements.


• Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.


• Must obtain and maintain all required documents, certifications, licenses, etc. listed on the credentialing checklist, sent by Katmai’s Credentialing Specialist, for this position for initial hire.

TRAVEL

All Market contractors are subject to working at a duty location at any of the Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) or associated sub clinics within the Colorado Military Health System (CMHS).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily indoors at a well-lit military treatment facility such as a clinic, outpatient facility or hospital. The environment is normally air conditioned, but conditions may change dependent upon circumstances. Work may need to be performed in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and rapid judgements. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of clients in differing functions, personalities and abilities. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids, latex, radiation or other contaminants and safety issues. May be exposed to infection or diseases from contact with patients. Work is highly social with patients and can be stressful with a high emotional element.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position consists of standing for long periods of time, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, speaking, or translating. Periods of walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage.
