Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Mammography Technologist to perform mammography exams under supervision within our Radiology department. Per diem weekends with 8-hour shifts, mixed day/evening schedule; on-site at United States facility.

Responsibilities include operating imaging equipment, documenting patient history, and maintaining equipment and records in HIS/RIS/PACS. ARRT Mammography certification and BLS are required or must be obtained within specified windows.

Qualifications

• Requires ARRT Mammography initial exam within 6 months of training.
• Must pass ARRT Mammography certification within 12 months of hire.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate Mammography equipment and perform exams, adjusting procedures for patient size, age or condition.
• Record pertinent breast history and note any discomfort or medical concerns.
• Adhere to policy, safety protocols, document work in HIS/RIS/PACS and PEN RAD systems.
• Assist in other areas/modalities as needed.
• Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas.

Under general supervision and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Mammography Supervisor and the Radiologist, performs Mammography and related clerical service duties.

I. Major Responsibilities:

• Operates Mammography Equipment and performs Mammography Exams; makes a psychological and physical assessment of each patient, making adjustments in the standard imaging procedures and techniques to accommodate patient size, age or condition using universal protocol and sterile techniques as necessary. Demonstrates breast self-examination if required.
• Records all pertinent breast history from the patient and notes any discomfort or medical complaint which could be of importance to the Radiologist.
• Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures, and safety control. Accurately documents work in the HIS/RIS/PACS and PEN RAD systems.
• Assists in other areas/modalities as needed.
• Cleans and maintains all accessory equipment (i.e., paddles, detectors, work area).

II. Position Qualifications:

• License/Certification/Education: Required:
  1. Must take the initial exam for the ARRT certification in Mammography within 6 months of the completion of the required competencies. Exam delays will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
  2. Must pass the ARRT Mammography certification exam within 12 months of hire.
  3. BLS certification with 30 days of hire.
• Experience/Skills: Required:
  1. Level of knowledge equivalent to an Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology.

Preferred:

• Prior experience in the field Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
