Job Summary

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for the performance of mammography and/or assisting with other related radiographic breast procedures (e.g. galactogram, stereotactic breast biopsy, et cetera). All work is performed in compliance with Federal (MQSA) and State (Texas Department of State Health Services) regulations as well as with ACR guidelines.

Qualifications
  • Education: Certificate of training from a Radiologic Technology Program, or Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology.
  • Experience: none required.
  • Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility, and department/unit specific to the needs of the patient population served.
  • Preferred: previous experience in the hospital role.
  • License or Certification: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (M) certification; Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification from Texas Department of Health.
Responsibilities
  • Proper positioning and obtaining necessary views and compression for mammography; labeling mammograms performed as required by ACR and documenting breast exam findings, history, and previous films.
  • Use the computer system for scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, and capturing charges.
  • Complete assignments independently, work as part of a team; take instructions from supervisors; exercise problem‑solving skills; interact with co‑workers, supervisors, patients, vendors and the public professionally.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork for patient contact before and after examinations is completed, mailed, and tracked.
  • Assess situations, consider alternatives, and choose appropriate course of action.
  • Coordinate each patient’s test and treatment with appropriate personnel (surgeon, radiologist, attending physician, laboratory).
Additional Responsibilities
  • May have access to radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents and other non‑controlled medications as appropriate for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Take "CALL" as necessary on a rotational basis.
  • Support the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System; demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Learn and comply with system and facility safety policies; use appropriate safety equipment; report unsafe conditions.
  • Adhere to the MHS Code of Conduct; report any activity that violates applicable laws or the Code of Conduct.
  • Provide care to adolescent, geriatric and adult patients.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of start date.
  • ARRT-M Mammography and RT Radiologic Technologist/Radiographer.
