Job summary

Center Theatre Group is seeking a Major Gifts Officer in Los Angeles to oversee a portfolio of approximately 110 donors and prospects with a focus on gifts of $25,000 and above. The role requires in-person office presence four days a week and occasional evenings and weekends for engagements.

The MGO will coordinate with the Institutional Advancement team, report to the Director of Development, and drive major gift strategies to support artistic development and CTG priorities.

WORK LOCATION:Los Angeles. In-person office time four days a week, meetings and event attendance as required

STATUS:(Exempt/Non-Exempt):Exempt

COMPENSATION:Salaried ranging from $84,000 to $88,000 annually

POSITION SUMMARY

Center Theatre Group seeks an experienced fundraiser with a proven track record of successfully soliciting major support (five-seven figures), ideally in the arts and culture sector. The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of approximately 110 donors and prospects with a primary emphasis on securing gifts at the $25,000 level and above. They will be an effective collaborator with other members of the fundraising team and responsibilities focus on acquiring, retaining and upgrading donors’ giving and involvement through meticulous planning, high-level thinking and development of targeted strategic approaches. Relationships are developed through in-person meetings, emails and telephone communications to understand how donors’ philanthropic goals align with CTG’s funding needs. Collaboration across departments with senior staff and Board Members is required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards assigned prospects and donors to achieve individual fundraising goals.
  • Independently manages a portfolio of approximately 110 major and planned gift prospects and donors to ensure the greatest individual connection to CTG and its mission for each prospect or donor.
  • Develops a strategic plan for each donor and prospect in collaboration with Individual Giving and prospect research colleagues, including identifying appropriate projects and budgets and ensures preparation of solicitation materials and proposals as needed.
  • Creates individual goals for each prospect and strategically brings donors closer to CTG’s mission by proactively gaining an in-depth knowledge of donors to ensure solicitations align with donors’ interests.
  • Leads the team in raising gifts towards Artistic Development initiatives, including but not limited to, new works and commissions, writers’ workshops and play readings, etc. Partners with Special Events and programming staff to develop and execute effective events that inspire support for Artistic Development Initiatives.
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of CTG’s funding priorities and passionately and persuasively articulates them.
  • Works closely with and proactively involves board and volunteer leadership in cultivation and solicitation activities to ensure gift sizes are maximized.
  • Maintains a robust schedule of theatre visits during CTG productions to identify new prospects while meeting with current donors.
  • Attend lunches, dinners, and other meetings with prospects and donors.
  • Organizes and attends in person events to steward and deepen relationships.
  • Maintains documentation according to organizational standards within Tessitura (CTG's CRM) for accurate gift recording and reporting.
  • Collaborates effectively with CTG's Advancement Operations team to ensure donors are appropriately recognized for their support.
  • Collaborates with other members of the team to set up planned and endowment gifts.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to ensuring that access, belonging and a positive workplace culture are rooted in all levels and aspects of our work.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Three or more years of progressively responsible fundraising experience and a proven track record of soliciting major gifts (five-seven figures) through in-person asks and proposals is required. Experience with planned giving and/or capital or comprehensive campaigns a plus. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with major donors are essential. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and CRM database systems; Tessitura experience is a plus. Fundraising experience in the arts and culture sector is a plus and a passion for theatre a must. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to sit, type and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry at least 40 pounds
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license [if driving on company business]
  • Ability to travel to and from the office and to lunch, dinner, and other meetings
  • Willingness and ability to work 40 hours per week. Flexibility to work non-traditional hours as needed for events and performances.
  • Excellent email communication skills.
  • A minimum of three years in major gift experience.
  • Ability to communicate through incoming and outgoing phone calls.
