Job summary

MoDOT in Osceola, MO is seeking candidates for entry-level to senior maintenance roles within our CAREER-LADDER program. Duties include maintaining highway systems and facilities, with opportunities for advancement as skills grow.

Positions involve outdoor work, physical demands, and potential overtime; training and benefits are provided as you progress along the career ladder.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET required.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Passing CDL written exam with tanker endorsement and interstate status within 60 days after hire; must pass driving portion with no air brake restrictions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain state highway systems including filling joints and cracks, patching potholes, flagging/ directing traffic, and setting up signs and traffic control devices.
• Maintain, clean, repair highway facilities including signs, guardrails, curbs/gutters, and painting buildings/equipment.
• Operate vehicles to transport personnel/equipment, plow snow, spread ice control materials, and operate heavy machinery.
• May repair bridge decks and drains and work at heights using ladders/scaffolding.
• May install signs, inspect truss signs, pour concrete sign footings, weld/cut sign posts, and maintain signs.

• Maintain state highway systems, including filling roadway joints and cracks and patching potholes; flagging and directing traffic; setting up signs, cones, arrow boards, and other traffic control devices; loading, unloading, spreading, and hauling materials and supplies; cutting and clearing brush; removing trash and debris from roadsides; cleaning and clearing ditches.
• Maintain, clean, and repair state highway facilities, including repairing and replacing road signs and guardrails; cleaning curbs and gutters; painting buildings and equipment; and servicing equipment and machinery.
• Operate vehicles to transport employees, equipment, machinery and/or materials, or to warn oncoming traffic, plow snow and spread ice control materials; mow right of way using tractor mower and hand tools; operate auger, trencher, backhoe, forklift, and various trucks (e.g., dump, aerial boom, bucket, and platform).
• May repair bridge decks (full and partial) and drains, and clean bridge bents/caps at heights on ladders or utilizing scaffolding.
• May install signs, including structural and large signs at overhead positions, inspect truss signs, pour concrete sign footings, weld and cut steel sign posts, and repair and maintain break away and/or overlay signs.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
• Valid Driver's License
• A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver's license (CDL) exam is required prior to hire date. Must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or Non-Excepted Interstate [NI]) within 60 days after being hired into this position.
• Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.

Special Working Conditions:

• Job requires significant physical stamina and endurance, including the ability to move materials by hand, operate hand tools, and perform stationary flagging.
• Job requires outdoor work that involves exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment, including risk of physical injury from carrying out duties in heavy traffic areas, on or near heavy equipment or machinery, and with hazardous chemicals or materials.

• Job may require overtime and nighttime work, and requires the ability to respond to emergency situations within a reasonable time period.

• Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
