Job summary

The City of San Angelo is seeking a Maintenance Worker II to perform unskilled general labor and maintenance work for City parks, streets, facilities and infrastructure in accordance with safety regulations.

You will work on a sports field maintenance crew, lead when needed, perform cleaning, landscaping, equipment operation, and help install irrigation and sprinkler systems. The position requires a high school diploma and Texas driver license, with hours 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, possible overtime.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and two years of general work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures and safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Works on a Sports Field maintenance crew made up of three or more workers at the Texas Bank Sports Complex.
  • In the absence of the Crew Leader, leads/supervises the crew for facility and infield maintenance.
  • Primary duty is the overall maintenance of buildings and surrounding areas including trash pickup, cleaning restrooms, concession sites, storage areas, walkways, turf sites, and parking lots.
  • May operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, tractors, skid steers, weed eaters, trimmers, and other related equipment.
  • May assist in pesticide and fertilizer applications, aerification of turfgrass, mowing, edging, and planting.
  • May assist in irrigation repairs and sprinkler system installation.
  • Position includes light construction and other related duties; responds to emergencies as needed.

We are currently seeking:

A Maintenance Worker II to join our team. In this role, you will perform unskilled general labor and maintenance work for City parks, streets, facilities and infrastructure in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Works on a Sports Field maintenance crew made up of three or more workers at the Texas Bank Sports Complex.
  • In the absence of the Crew Leader, leads/supervises the crew for facility and infield maintenance.
  • Primary duty is the overall maintenance of buildings and surrounding areas to include such duties as trash pickup and removal, cleaning of restrooms, concession sites, storage areas, walkways, turf sites, parking lots, etc. Other duties include playground inspections/maintenance and infield clay maintenance (dragging, lining, fencing, bases, mounds, weed control, infield irrigation, etc.).
  • May operate and maintain various equipment such as rotary and/or reel mowers, tractors, skid steers, weed-eaters, trimmers, chain and pole saws, shovels, hoes, rakes, pruning shears, truck, trailer, blower, and other equipment involved in the maintenance of assigned areas.
  • May be responsible for the development and maintenance of parks and sports field areas performing duties such as pesticide and fertilizer applications, aerification of turfgrass, mowing, string trimming, fence installation/removal, edging, planting, weeding flower beds, applying water to turf area and flower beds, pruning trees, etc.
  • May assist in the installation of sprinkler systems and perform irrigation repairs.
  • Position includes light construction, application of various pesticides, and other related/assigned duties as required.
  • Operates a variety of specialized equipment and performs general manual labor tasks in order to maintain parks, streets, infrastructure and City facilities as assigned; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills; responds to emergencies as needed.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of tools and specialized equipment.
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of parks and roadways; maintains landscaping and grounds; clears trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, structures, grounds and facilities.
  • Cleans and maintains City facilities; makes minor facility repairs; assists with the construction of new facilities and installation of equipment.
  • Cleans and stores hazardous materials according to City policy and procedures.
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm to include some over-time, weekends and holidays, (30-minute lunch).
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.

Requirements
Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent; and two years of general work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
  • Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Required Knowledge of:
  • City policies and procedures.
  • City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Required Skill in:
  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Skilled in operating various tools and machines used in ground maintenance work.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
  • Work is performed outdoors.
  • Ability to perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time; work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and carry up to 117 pounds.
