Job Summary

This position is located at the DowntownCampus

The Maintenance Worker II works to provide sub-journeyman workin the performance of a variety of maintenance and repair tasks inone or more craft areas. This role organizes the work plan for thebuilding maintenance needs, provides technical guidance andleadership, coordinates corrective and preventive maintenanceactivity, assigns work orders and control supply and toolinventories. This role is responsible for the daily operations,maintenance and repair work of plumbing, painting, electrical,carpentry, air conditioning, and refrigeration. This positionutilizes the TMA system in the management of work orders. TheMaintenance Worker II assists in the coordination of spacemake-readies, facility renovations and new construction.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks, includingpainting, paint mixing, and color matching; unclogging sinks,toilets, and sewer lines; assisting with wood construction andrepairs; replacing light bulbs, fuses, and making basic electricalrepairs; removing trash; installing ceilings; and repairing orreplacing plumbing fixtures such as lines, faucets, and sinks.
  2. Trains student employees in the above duties.
  3. Utilizes TMA technology to manage daily work assignments andensure all work orders are managed and closed accurately within thesystem.
  4. Maintains supply inventory accuracy and responsible forrequesting purchases related to equipment and supplies.
  5. Ensures response time to emergency, urgent or normal workrequests is compliant with our commitment to students.
  6. Communicates concerns to UTSA Facilities in a timelymanner.
  7. Performs general mechanical emergencies until UTSA Facilitiessupport staff arrive.
  8. Actively participates in meetings and training opportunities asappropriate to the position.
  9. May be needed as essential staff in after-hour and weekendemergencies.
  10. Performs inspections to ensure facilities are maintainedaccording to APPA standards.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, Vocational Training, or Apprenticeship ina related field.
  • Three (3) years of related work experience.
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the securityand integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per TexasEO-GA-48.

Working Conditions
  • Position will operate in air-conditioned office environment aswell as outside in various weather conditions. Some exposure toweather and/or physical hazards. After adequate training, willparticipate in facilities related emergency response. Use ofrequired special equipment and power tools. Exposure to mechanicaland electrical hazards, and working in crawl spaces, machine roomsand other operational areas which may require protective equipment.Work schedule is currently Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM;however, flexible hours may be required to satisfy department needsand may include overtime, evenings, odd hours, shift work, weekendsand/or holidays.
Physical Demands
  • Duties require walking, standing, stooping, kneeling,stretching, lifting and climbing ladders. Must be able to lift,push and pull 50 pounds of weight with or withoutaccommodations.

This position will work primarily on campus.Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
