Job summary

City of Fulshear is seeking a Groundskeeper Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of tasks maintaining City parks, fields, and facilities. You may work independently or with a crew, using hand tools and light equipment to keep outdoor spaces in good order. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and at least three years of general maintenance experience.

A valid Texas driver's license is required; CDL is preferred. The job includes on-site duties and potential on-call shifts.

Job description

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to maintain, improve, and enhance City grounds, parkland, and related facilities. Work may be performed independently or as part of a crew. Duties include the use and upkeep of specialized hand tools and light motorized equipment, as well as manual labor and semiskilled maintenance tasks. This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Maintain City structures, facilities, public fields, parks, and grounds; assist with fabrication and installation of street signs as needed.
  • Perform a variety of landscaping tasks including weeding, mowing, seeding, trimming, and planting.
  • Troubleshoot and repair maintenance-related issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update work orders, logs, and other service records through the City's online system.
  • Safely operate small and large tractors, turf mowers, trimmers, weed eaters, chain saws, power equipment, and hand tools in the maintenance of City grounds, buildings, and facilities.
  • Respond to public inquiries courteously; provide accurate information within assigned areas and resolve complaints efficiently.
  • Work rotating shifts as assigned; subject to on-call duty when needed.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and consistent attendance.
  • Serve as essential personnel during natural or manmade disasters and other catastrophic events; may be assigned duties outside normal scope of work to ensure public safety and continuity of City operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands and environmental conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work requires sufficient physical strength, agility, dexterity, and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential functions. Duties also require frequent sitting, walking, kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and bending. Work also requires employee to climb and work from ladders and supports up to heights of 45 feet. Work is performed primarily outdoors and exposes employee to potential hazards such as extreme weather conditions, dust, noise, and exhaust fumes. Employee is also exposed to potential physical hazards when working off ladders and supports, and to potential chemical hazards when handling and applying chemicals. Work requires the frequent use of safety clothing and equipment and compliance with safety rules and procedures. Work is subject to frequent interruptions.

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

Work requires possession of a high school diploma or GED and at least three (3) years of previous experience of general maintenance work.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Groundskeeping, landscaping, and facility maintenance techniques and practices.
  • Safe operation, maintenance, and minor repair of landscaping tools, light motorized vehicles, and power equipment.
  • Proper handling and storage of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Basic recordkeeping practices and use of computerized work order systems.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices related to public works and grounds maintenance.
Skills in:
  • Operating and maintaining hand tools and power equipment used in grounds and facility maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing minor repairs.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate service logs and records.
  • Providing courteous and professional customer service.
  • Working effectively as part of a crew or independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to:
  • Perform a variety of manual labor and semi-skilled maintenance tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting, bending, carrying, and operating equipment.
License, Certifications, And Other Requirements:
  • Valid State of Texas Driver's License
  • CDL preferred
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical agility exam, criminal background, and MVR check
