Job summary

City of San Angelo is seeking a maintenance worker to perform unskilled general labor and maintenance for City parks, streets, facilities and infrastructure. Responsibilities include operating equipment, performing repairs, and maintaining grounds, with a schedule of 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, plus some weekends/holidays.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of general work experience, and a valid Texas Driver License.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and one year of general work experience; or an equivalent combination.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
  • Work is outdoors; capable of lifting up to 123 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment and perform general labor to maintain parks, streets, infrastructure and facilities.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs following safety regulations; report hazards and problems.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of tools and specialized equipment.
  • Assist in repair/maintenance of parks and roadways; manage landscaping and grounds.
  • Clean and store hazardous materials per city policy; work Mon-Fri 7:00–3:30 with some weekends/holidays.

Position will be open until filled.

We are currently seeking:

A maintenance worker to join our team and perform unskilled general labor and maintenance work for City parks, streets, facilities and infrastructure in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Operating a variety of specialized equipment and performing general manual labor tasks in order to maintain parks, streets, infrastructure and City facilities as assigned; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills; responds to emergencies as needed.
  • Performing maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reporting safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of tools and specialized equipment.
  • Assisting in the repair and maintenance of parks and roadways; maintaining landscaping and grounds; clearing trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, structures, grounds and facilities.
  • Cleaning and maintaining City facilities; making minor facility repairs; assisting with the construction of new facilities and installation of equipment.
  • Cleaning and storing hazardous materials according to City policy and procedures.
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; to include some weekends/holidays.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.

Requirements
  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent; and one year of general work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
  • Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
  • Work is performed outdoors.
  • Requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and carry up to 123 pounds.
