Thisisanentry-level,skilled,full-time,non-exemptpositionunder thedirectsupervisionoftheStreetsCrewLeaderorStreetSupervisor.Thisemployeeperforms avarietyofsemi-skilledandskilledtasksassistingintherepair,andmaintenanceofpublic buildings,andpublicworksfacilities.Heorshealsoassistsintherepairandmaintenanceof streetsandCityrightofway.Thispositionisrequiredtobeoncallperiodicallythroughoutthe year.
- Resurfaces,repairsorpatchesroadwayswithhotasphaltor“coldpatch”.
- Repairs andinstallnewconcretesidewalksandcurbs.
- Paintstrafficmarkingsonstreets,crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs.
- Removes ice and snow from public roadways, sidewalks, and City parkinglots.
- Mowsgrassusingzeroturnmowersandtrimshrubs,treesetc.
- Removeslitterand debrisfromroadwayscurbs,shoulders,medians,sidewalks,andotherCityrights-of-way;Picks upanddisposesofresidentbaggedcurbsideyardclippingsandwaste.
- Operatesspecialized vehiclesandavarietyoflight,mediumandheavyequipmentrelatedtothemaintenanceand repair of the City’s Street system.
- Performs minor carpentry, heating, plumbing or electrical work to City facilities. Performs minor servicing to truck and reports mechanical or other problems
- Keepstruckstockedwithsuppliesandmaterials.
- Answersemergencycallsfromthe publicandotheragenciestakingappropriateactionsuchasplacingbarricades,removingfallen treesandlimbs,emergencypatchingofstreets,etc.
- Participatesinwatersystemmaintenance andrepairwork;locates,excavatesandrepairswaterlinesandrelatedfacilities;inspectswater projectsforleaks,decayedpipes,spillagesandpumpmalfunctioning.
- Maintainspublic facilities, shopandgarageareas,storagesites,andotherworkareasinacleanandorderlycondition, includingsecuringequipmentatthecloseoftheworkday;Installsbarricadesandroutestraffic inasafemanner.
- Providescourteouscustomerservicerespondingtoquestionsandinquiries fromthegeneralpublic.
- Respondstocustomerproblemsorissuesandfacilityrepair.
- Contacts the public to inform them of activities and shutdownsandexplains applicable rules and regulations.
- Removes weeds and debris from public buildings street easements, and other grounds.
- May operate a jackhammer; pours and finishes concrete and blacktop.
- May participate in training new employees in work practices and in how to apply policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations.
- Maintains records of basic operations, maintenance and workperformed.
- Preforms occasional general custodial work in public buildings.
- Assists in the set up and breakdown of special events.
- Required to be on call every five weeks.
- Preforms other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to obtain a class B CDL with the appropriate endorsements within 1 year of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Employee may be required to operate light, medium, and heavy equipment vehicles, and other equipment.
- Constant exposure to all weather conditions (sometimes severe).
- Walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting.
- Exposure to airborne dust and loud noises.
- Frequent climbing of ladders up to 12’ above ground.
- Driving and working on slippery surfaces.
- Working with toxic substances.
- Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined and cramped spaces.
- Ability to use repetitive hand motion, lift above shoulders climb in and out of ditches, turn valves, lift and carry pipes and dig ditches.
- Continuous standing, frequent walking, bending and stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling, and twisting of wrist in use of tools.
- Occasional sitting, squatting, crawling, climbing and balancing.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Vision must be sufficient to read computer screens, printed documents, and to operate vehicles and equipment. Employee must hear in the normal audio range, with or without correction.
