Job summary

Gfoat in Wisconsin seeks a Maintenance Worker to support water and wastewater line maintenance, repair, and construction tasks. You will read meters accurately, follow written and oral instructions, and work solo or in crews to lay, maintain, and repair lines.

You will operate jackhammers and tampers, drive dump trucks, backhoes, and sewer trucks, and perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Attention to safety and readiness to work nights or weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write the English language.
• Ability to speak and understand fluently the English language.
• Ability to make mathematical calculations by adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing numbers.
• Employees must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
• Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Class C License.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintenance of water and wastewater service lines and mains.
• Read and interpret water meters accurately.
• Operate equipment and vehicles to lay, maintain, and repair lines.
• Unstop sanitary sewer lines and install basic service components.
• Follow safety protocols and set up barricades as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Maintain attendance and be available for nights/weekends as required.
• Complete reports and communicate issues as directed.

Job description

• Works effectively with other employees to repair or replace water and wastewater service lines, or mains;
• Must be able to read and understand water meters accurately;
• As part of a crew, or alone, whose primary responsibility is to water and wastewater line laying, maintenance, and repair;
• Receives radio dispatched orders or complaints and checks the problem;
• Use jackhammer, tamper for extended periods of time;
• Drive equipment to and from job sites (dump truck, sewer truck, backhoe and etc.);
• Unstop sanitary sewer lines;
• Install two way clean-outs in sewer service lines;
• Set up barricades when required to protect employees and the public;
• Performs routine maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment;
• Sorts, reads, understands and follows written and oral job instructions;
• Writes reports by hand;
• Makes water and wastewater taps;
• Notifies public of interruption of services;
• May Serve as Water Distribution / Wastewater Collection Crew Leader in their absence when directed;
• Serve on standby crew for after hours emergency work as required;
• Must arrive at work on time;
• Must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance;
• Must be available to work nights and/or weekends as needed;
• Performs maintenance of city facilities and property, such as manual mowing, digging, filling, installing culverts, clearing brush and debris, seeding, fertilizing, etc.
