Job summary

Inovar Packaging Group is seeking a Maintenance Technician Supervisor to lead the maintenance team, drive reliability, and ensure equipment uptime in our Ames facility. You will troubleshoot a range of manufacturing equipment, implement preventive plans, and coordinate with Operations to minimize downtime and maintain production quality.

The role requires hands-on leadership, experience with CMMS, and strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and PLC‑controlled systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field preferred.
  • Five (5)+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Two (2)+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC‑controlled equipment.

  • Plan, prioritize, and assign daily maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime and production efficiency.

  • Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure timely completion of work orders and maintenance documentation within the CMMS.
  • Collaborate with Production leadership to minimize downtime.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend upgrades, replacements, and capital improvements.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily operations of the maintenance department to ensure maximum equipment reliability, production uptime, and facility safety. This hands‑on leadership role supervises maintenance technicians while actively participating in troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives.


The Maintenance Technician Supervisor partners closely with Operations, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety teams to maintain manufacturing equipment, reduce downtime, improve operational efficiencies, and support Inovar's commitment to delivering exceptional products to our customers.



  • Supervise, coach, train, and develop Maintenance Technicians while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety.

  • Plan, prioritize, and assign daily maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime and production efficiency.

  • Lead troubleshooting and repair efforts on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and PLC‑controlled manufacturing equipment.

  • Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.

  • Ensure timely completion of work orders and maintenance documentation within the CMMS or maintenance tracking system.

  • Collaborate with Production leadership to prioritize repairs and minimize production downtime.

  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement permanent corrective actions.

  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend upgrades, replacements, and capital improvements.

  • Maintain inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and supplies while managing vendor relationships.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, electrical safety standards, and company safety policies.

  • Assist with equipment installations, facility projects, machinery relocations, and new production line startups.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, waste reduction, and cost savings.

  • Develop and maintain maintenance standard operating procedures and best practices.

  • Support budgeting activities related to maintenance expenses, repairs, and capital equipment.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and prepare reports on equipment performance, downtime, and maintenance metrics.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications Required


  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field preferred.

  • Five (5)+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Two (2)+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.

  • Strong troubleshooting experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC‑controlled equipment.

  • Experience reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.

  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.


Preferred


  • Experience within flexographic printing, digital printing, labels, packaging, converting, or related manufacturing.

  • PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or similar).

  • CMMS experience.

  • Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement experience.

  • Welding and fabrication experience.

  • Knowledge of servo motors, VFDs, robotics, and automated production equipment.

  • Leads by example with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and accountability.

  • Builds trust through coaching, communication, and employee development.

  • Makes sound decisions under pressure while maintaining a customer‑first mindset.

  • Drives continuous improvement and operational excellence.

  • Effectively manages priorities while balancing preventive maintenance with production demands.

Physical Requirements


  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.

  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work around moving machinery, electrical systems, and manufacturing equipment.

  • Manual dexterity to safely operate tools, diagnostic equipment, and machinery.

  • Ability to work flexible hours or respond to maintenance emergencies when necessary.
