Greenville Water in Travelers Rest, SC is seeking a Maintenance Technician or Trainee to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment at water treatment plants, pump stations and telemetering sites. The role requires reading mechanical diagrams, maintaining CMMS records, and coordinating with supervisors and engineers.

Trainee requires 1 year maintenance/repair experience; Technician requires 2 years.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED; 1 year experience for Trainee and 2 years for Technician.
  • Valid SC driver7s license; ability to obtain Distribution Operator D within 2 years.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains mechanical equipment and system components (valves, pumps, motors).
  • Maintains electrical components and systems (relays, starters, valve operators).
  • Repairs and services plant/pump station transmitters, receivers and sensors.
  • Performs routine maintenance of pump stations, storage tanks, and treatment plants.
  • Reviews flow and pressure charts to monitor performance.
  • Maintains inventory of tools, parts and equipment.
  • Prepares maintenance records and inventory receipts.
  • Provides daily work-order reconciliations.

Maintenance Technician or Trainee
JOB SUMMARY

Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment used and operated at water treatment plants, pump stations and telemetering stations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical equipment and system components, including but not limited to valves, pumps, motors, etc.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs of electrical components and systems, including but not limited to relays, electric starters, electrical and manual valve operators.
  • Repairs and services plant and pump station electronic transmitters, receivers, elevation and flow signals, and pressure signals.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair of pump stations, storage tanks, treatment plants, pressure reducing valves, office spaces and other facilities as necessary.
  • Reviews flow charts, pressure charts, etc., to monitor equipment performance
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of tools, parts and equipment
  • Prepares maintenance records of all equipment/system maintenance and repair work; maintains inventory records.
  • Provides daily reconciliations, including work orders, requisitions, and purchase orders.
  • Must be able to adequately read and interpret mechanical diagrams.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department supervisors and employees, engineers, contractors, other government agencies, City/County personnel, sales and service representatives, and the general public.
  • Collects water samples at remote sites as needed.
  • Transfers power to emergency generators and back-up engines as needed.
  • Climbs storage tanks for repairs and inspections.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN TRAINEE

A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by one (1) year of experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair work; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must be able to obtain a Distribution Operator "D" classification within 2 years. Valid South Carolina driver's license. Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications. Advancement to Facilities Maintenance Technician: 1 year of experience as Trainee, along with meeting the above criteria and training requirements of career path.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

A High School Diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair work in an industrial environment; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Should have general understanding of how to operate and conduct basic maintenance of equipment used in a water system. Should have experience with a CMMS program and how it is utilized. Must be able to obtain a Distribution Operator "D" classification, within 2 years. Valid South Carolina driver's license. Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
