Lesaffre, a global leader in fermentation, leads the Red Star Yeast team in Cedar Rapids, IA. This Maintenance Technician role covers electrical and mechanical equipment, with a rotating night shift from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, and a strong focus on safety and reliability.

You will perform rounds, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and participate in upgrades while documenting work in MAPCON CMMS. The position requires an Industrial Maintenance degree or 3–5 years’ experience and skills in PLC

Qualifications

• Degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field, or 3–5 years experience.
• Experience diagnosing electrical circuits with test equipment.
• Ability to read PLC logic and electrical diagrams.
• Familiar with CMMS for documenting maintenance work.
• Forklift, man lift and production equipment training.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and handle extended hours if needed.
• Strong safety awareness and adherence to protocols.

What you bring to the table:

The primary purpose of the Maintenance Technician is to maintain and repair all plant electrical equipment, control instruments, mechanical equipment, and structure. Also, assist in the construction and installation of plant electrical modifications or equipment additions as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor. This role follows a rotating night shift schedule from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

What you’ll do as a Maintenance Tech:

• Safety Commitment:
  • Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to Lesaffre’s safety-first culture by strictly following all safety protocols and participating in required safety programs.
• Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate all mechanical and electrical equipment across Lesaffre’s Red Star campus, including:
  • Motors, motor control centers, control panels, VFD units, HVAC systems, lighting, transformers, and capacitor bank systems.
  • Plant instruments (pH probes, flow meters, pressure/level transmitters, temperature probes, etc.).
  • Mechanical equipment (pumps, compressors, blowers, separators, automated packaging equipment, piping systems, valves, and fittings).
• Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
  • Perform daily rounds to check critical equipment for proper operation.
  • Complete weekly preventive maintenance (PM) tasks as scheduled, documenting work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues using PLC interface software and other diagnostic tools.
• Project & Upgrade Work:
  • Assist with electrical upgrades, equipment modifications, and control panel construction.
  • Run conduit, pull conductors, and support equipment installation projects.
• Collaboration & Documentation:
  • Assist other technicians with inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Document all maintenance work in CMMS (MAPCON) and communicate progress via MS Outlook.
  • Fill out PM report sheets and maintain accurate records.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

• Degree in Industrial Maintenance or a related field or 3-5 years' experience
• Must understand and be able to use complicated test equipment for diagnosis of hard-to-find problems with electrical circuits and equipment
• Ability to read and understand PLC logic and electrical diagrams or schematics
• Ability to locate, read, and comprehend equipment manuals and use the troubleshooting guide in manuals to resolve problems
• Willing and able to use a computer daily
• Familiar with different types of hand tools and be able to operate different types of power tools and lift equipment
• Possess basic mechanical skills and knowledge of mechanical system
• Mechanically inclined to determine how a piece of equipment functions
• Required to be trained on an able to operate forklifts, man lifts, production equipment and power tools
• Ability to work under minimal supervision
• Able to handle critical decision-making responsibilities and deal with mental stress from occasional extended worked hours outside of regularly scheduled shift
• Required certifications, technical experience, etc.
