Job summary

Champion Foods LLC. is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to provide electrical and mechanical support at our bakery in Gaffney, South Carolina. About the Role

This position will work 12‑hour shifts on a 4‑4 schedule. The Maintenance Technician I provides general electrical and mechanical support to the facility in manufacturing equipment maintenance and repair, and facility/utility maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment and share knowledge of applicable mechanical concepts and principles with other maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair facility and utilities such as compressed air, water boilers, and HVAC units.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair of facility electrical equipment, including single‑phase AC circuits and DC circuits.
  • Perform daily equipment change‑overs and set‑ups.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical manuals and schematics as required.
  • Provide operating instructions and training for production line manufacturing equipment to other facility associates.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled and report results.
  • Complete work orders as assigned and report results.
  • Provide technical assistance to reduce or eliminate issues associated with equipment, performance, quality, and safety.
  • Perform special projects from time to time as assigned by maintenance management in a cost‑effective and timely manner.
  • Inform the appropriate facility personnel of any necessary modifications or system malfunctions that would affect their area of operation.
  • Utilize existing maintenance management systems effectively.
  • Help ensure plant and manufacturing equipment are in compliance with all government and local regulations as well as internal policies related to FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMP, and others.
  • Perform other incidental duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and neat working area in compliance with OSHA and food plant regulations.
  • Maintain a proactive attitude to ensure maximum efficiency and longer run‑time of production line equipment, and ensure that production line equipment is left in a functional state for subsequent shifts.
  • Perform non‑technical assignments as requested by maintenance management and maintain tools in good working condition, reporting damaged tools immediately.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must obtain the minimum assessment level required for a Maintenance Technician as established by the maintenance department.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours when necessary.
  • Trustworthy with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Independent reasoning and judgment.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of plant personnel.
  • Problem‑solving skills and a can‑do attitude at all times.
  • Self‑motivated and willing to make decisions.
  • Adherence to GMP regulations and procedures.
  • Eagerness to continue education and/or training.
  • Completion of assigned projects and tasks.
Work Environment

Located in a 144,000‑square‑foot bakery in Gaffney, South Carolina, the role requires working in various areas of the building as well as some outside work (production areas, offices, freezers, common areas, elevators, restrooms, silos, roof). The position may require continuous standing, squatting, lifting, sitting, bending, and moving of heavy weight (over 50 pounds) material in difficult work positions. Employees must be able to work in confined spaces (permit required areas) and complete height‑related assignments. All items listed above are illustrative and are not comprehensive.
