ARTISAN Management Group is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support apartment communities in Ames, IA. The role emphasizes plumbing repairs and troubleshooting while providing HVAC, electrical, and general building maintenance.

Responsibilities include responding to work orders, performing preventative maintenance, and maintaining safety and cleanliness of common areas and units. This full‑time, on‑call position offers hands‑on service and community impact.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and appliance repair.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work in accordance with ARTISAN policies and procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Maintain community buildings, equipment, and grounds to support resident satisfaction.
  • Plumbing repairs, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
  • General maintenance across HVAC, electrical, appliances, and building systems.
  • Respond to work orders, inspections, and on‑call support.
  • Ensure safe operation and repair of facility equipment, with health and safety compliance.
  • Respond to after-hours on‑call maintenance requests and participate in on‑call rotation.
  • Inspect common areas and units to proactively address issues.
  • Complete building repairs (drywall, flooring, doors, hardware, windows, etc.).
  • Maintain pools/spas and associated safety equipment where applicable.
  • Keep tools/storage areas organized and secure.
  • Participate in ARTISAN training and development programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summary of Position

As part of the ARTISAN maintenance team, you will play a key role in maintaining the overall condition, safety, and performance of the community. This position requires well-rounded maintenance expertise, with a strong emphasis on plumbing repairs and troubleshooting, while also supporting HVAC, electrical, building repairs, and resident service needs. You will help protect the value of the property and contribute to a positive resident experience through responsive, high-quality maintenance support.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performall workin accordance withARTISAN policies and procedures, as well as all relevant federal, state, and local laws (including Fair Housing, ADA, and FCRA).
  • Maintain community buildings, equipment, and grounds to support operational and resident satisfaction goals.
  • Plumbing repairs, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance
  • General maintenance support across HVAC, electrical, appliances, and building systems
  • Work order response, inspections, and on‑call support
  • Follows practices for the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of all facility equipment, including compliance with health, safety programs, policies, procedures, reports.
  • Responds to work ordersin a timely manner, including after hours on‑call maintenance requests andparticipatesin the on‑call rotation.
  • Inspect common areas andresidential units toidentifyand address maintenance issues proactively.
  • Complete building repairs such as drywall, flooring, doors, hardware, windows, screens and more.
  • Maintain pools/spas, chemicals, logs, and associated safety equipment (where applicable).
  • Keep tools and storage areas organized and secure.
  • Participate in required ARTISAN training and development programs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands of the Position

This role requires frequent standing, bending, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting. Candidates should be comfortable working with hand tools, ladders, and in physically active environments. A strong understanding of OSHA safety protocols is required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as maintenance technician in residential, commercial, or facility settings
  • Proficiencyin basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and appliance repair
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues independently
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Preferred certifications: CAMT, EPA, CPO, boiler license, or related licenses/certifications
  • Basic computerproficiencypreferred
