Job summary

Balfour Beatty Communities in Groton, CT is seeking a Maintenance Technician to manage the upkeep of our community facilities and provide world-class service to residents. You'll diagnose issues, perform repairs, and coordinate with contractors to maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other systems.

The role requires several years of maintenance experience, EPA 608 Universal certification (or equivalent), and strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED graduate level.
• Minimum of 7 years of maintenance experience with no certifications or 4 years’ experience with EPA 608 Universal required.
• Approved designations or degree/license/certification(s) in HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Appliance Repair Certification or Carpentry.
• Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
• Advanced knowledge in at least one of Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry.
• Ability to diagnose problems and implement repairs.
• Ability to perform Quality Control on work and repairs.
• Demonstrated ability to train on skill trades.
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide guidance and training to less senior technicians.
• Required training for Maintenance Tech III completed within 15 months of hire/promotion date.
• Valid, state‑issued driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee one or more assets and supervise maintenance engineers and technicians. Manage HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other systems.
• Ensure the successful execution of company safety and environmental policies.
• Deliver high resident satisfaction through responsive, professional interactions.
• Work a rotating on‑call schedule for 24/7 maintenance coverage.

The Maintenance Technician is integral to meeting this objective, with responsibility for maintaining the overall physical condition of the community and providing world‑class service to our valued residents. Our Maintenance Technicians diagnose maintenance issues, make necessary repairs and ensure all resident service requests and other community maintenance is completed in a timely manner.

What you'll be doing

• Oversee one or more assets and supervise general maintenance engineers and technicians. Usually also has specific property maintenance responsibilities, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, utilities and lighting systems, inspections and repairs. Experience level to direct mechanics, technicians, and outside contractors on assigned projects. Controls inventory of parts and equipment. Coordinate all maintenance related contractor activities.
• Ensure the successful execution of all company safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• Deliver the highest level of resident satisfaction through responsive, consistent, positive and professional interactions.
• Work a rotating on‑call schedule to have 24/7 maintenance coverage.

Who we're looking for

Typical Physical Demands

Regularly use hands to manipulate tools, machinery, equipment, supplies and office equipment. Frequently stand, reach with hands and arms, climb ladders, balance and stoop. Sit and stand to do clerical work. Regularly lift and move equipment and supplies up to 50‑75 lbs.

Typical Work Conditions

Work is performed in and outside a maintenance/machinery environment and in and outside residential properties. Employees frequently interact directly with residents, maintenance, and communities’ staff during the workday.
