Job summary

Balfour Beatty Communities is seeking a Maintenance Technician to oversee property maintenance and lead a team of technicians. You will diagnose issues, perform repairs, and manage resident service requests to uphold high standards across our communities.

Ideal candidates have substantial maintenance experience, strong customer service, and the ability to work on a rotating on-call schedule. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry certifications are valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 7 years of maintenance experience, or 4 years with EPA 608 Universal certification.
• Designations or certifications in HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Appliance Repair, or Carpentry are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversees assets and supervises maintenance staff, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and lighting systems.
• Ensure safety and environmental policies are followed across all activities.
• Deliver high resident satisfaction through responsive, professional service.
• Maintain 24/7 maintenance coverage via on-call rotations.

The Maintenance Technician is integral to meeting this objective, with responsibility for maintaining the overall physical condition of the community and providing world-class service to our valued residents. Our Maintenance Technicians diagnose maintenance issues, make necessary repairs and ensure all resident service requests and other community maintenance is completed in a timely manner

About the Maintenance Technician Job Family

Balfour Beatty Communities' (BBC) Maintenance Technician Job Family was established to provide a structure around the maintenance function at BBC. • Maintenance Trainee
• Maintenance Technician I

What you'll be doing

• Oversees one or more assets and supervise general maintenance engineers and technicians. Usually also has specific property maintenance responsibilities, including, but not limited to general maintenance and orderliness of property HVAC, mechanical, electrical, utilities and lighting systems. Including inspections and repairs. Experience level to direct mechanics, technicians, and outside contractors on assigned projects. Controls inventory of parts and equipment. Coordinate all Maintenance related / contractor activities.
• Ensuring the successful execution of all company safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• Delivering the highest level of resident satisfaction through responsive, consistent, positive and professional interactions.
• Working a rotating on call schedule to have 24/7 maintenance coverage

Who we're looking for

Qualified candidates will have:

• High school diploma or GED graduate level
• Minimum of 7 years of maintenance experience with no certificationsor4 years’ experience with EPA 608 Universal required.
• Approved designations or degree/license/certification(s) in at least one of the following
  • HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Appliance Repair Certification or Carpentry.
• Demonstrated strong customer service skills
• Advanced knowledge in at least one of the following disciplines: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry.
• Ability to diagnose problems and implement repairs
• Ability to perform Quality Control on work and repairs completed
• Demonstrated ability to train on skill trades
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong time management skills.
• Ability to provide guidance and training to less senior technicians. Strong customer service skills.
• Required training for Maintenance Tech III completed within 15 months of hire/promotion date.
• Valid, state-issued driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.

Typical Physical Demands

Regularly use hands to manipulate tools, machinery, equipment, supplies, and office equipment. Frequently stand, reach with hands and arms, climb ladders, balance, and stoop. Sit and stand to do clerical work. Regularly lift and move equipment and supplies up to 50-75 lbs.

Typical Work Conditions

Work is performed in and outside a maintenance/machinery environment and in and outside residential properties. Employee frequently interacts directly with residents, maintenance, and communities’ staff during the workday.
