Job summary

Daubert Chemical Company is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician II for its Forest View, IL plant. You will install, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, utilities, and facility systems in a chemical production environment.

The role is 2nd shift (3pm–11:30pm) with training on first shift, possible overtime, and after-hours call rotation. Safety and regulatory compliance are emphasized throughout daily operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associate degree or technical certification preferred.
• Minimum of three years in industrial maintenance, preferably in chemical/ process manufacturing.
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting pumps, steam systems, electrical systems, fabrication, and welding.
• Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with all levels.
• Proficient with CMMS, reading wiring diagrams, schematics, P&IDs.

Job description

We are seeking a hands‑on, highly skilled and motivated Maintenance Technician II to work at our plant located in Forest View, IL, near Midway Airport. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, utilities, and facility systems within a chemical production environment. This role ensures equipment reliability, safe operations, and compliance with company, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

This role is for 2nd shift, which is 3pm - 11:30pm. Candidates must be available to work first‑shift hours during the initial training period, which may last up to 90 days. Following training, the position will move to its designated second‑shift schedule. Opportunity for overtime based on business requirements. Some mandatory Saturdays and an after‑hours rotating call‑in schedule, as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA regulations, including LOTO, confined space entry, hot work permits, fall protection, PPE requirements, and safe work permitting.
• Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production equipment and facility systems in a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and process control systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, assembly drawings, and P&IDs.
• Install, maintain, and repair process piping systems up to 3 inches, along with associated instrumentation and process equipment.
• Maintain and repair rotating equipment including gear pumps, diaphragm pumps, gearboxes, chain drives, pulley systems, and related machinery.
• Assist with the planning, installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment, piping, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
• Participate in reliability improvement initiatives as directed by management.
• Prioritize and execute planned work orders while effectively responding to unplanned maintenance needs.
• Document maintenance activities, procedures, equipment history, and repair records within the CMMS system.
• Develop and maintain standardized repair procedures for recurring equipment issues.
• Apply 5S principles and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Exercise stop‑work authority and report safety concerns, incidents, and unsafe behaviors involving employees or contractors.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of cross‑functional teams including Operations, Engineering, EHS, and Reliability.
• Perform work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions, elevated temperatures, and industrial manufacturing conditions.
• Participate in an after‑hours on‑call rotation to support plant operations and emergency maintenance requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree, technical certification, apprenticeship, or vocational training in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• Minimum of three (3) years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a chemical, process manufacturing, or related industrial environment.
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial equipment, including pumps, mixers, steam systems, electrical systems, fabrication, and welding operations preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with employees, contractors, and management at all organizational levels.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Maintenance, Operations, and Reliability teams to support safe and efficient plant operations.
• Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, machine tools, measuring devices, and pressure indicators.
• Basic computer proficiency, including experience with CMMS software, web‑based applications, and online training systems.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately complete maintenance documentation, work orders, and assigned projects in a timely manner.
• Basic mathematical skills required for maintenance calculations, measurements, and troubleshooting equipment.
• Experience with plumbing, pipefitting, and process piping systems is a plus.
• Ability to safely operate Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), including forklifts, scissor lifts, and other material handling equipment.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, housekeeping, and maintaining organized work areas, tools, and equipment.
• Dependable attendance, punctuality, and a strong work ethic are essential.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires frequent lifting and carrying of materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasional pushing or pulling of loads up to 100 pounds. Employees must be capable of working at elevated heights, in confined spaces, and in physically demanding industrial environments. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be medically qualified and able to wear a respirator as required to safely perform assigned duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.

This position is performed in a chemical manufacturing facility and requires work in production areas, maintenance shops, equipment rooms, utility areas, and occasional outdoor locations. Employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical equipment, industrial machinery, airborne particles, fumes, dust, oils, grease, and process chemicals. Frequent exposure to wet, humid, hot, cold, and noisy conditions is expected, as well as occasional exposure to energized electrical systems, elevated work areas, and other industrial hazards. Work may be done indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Noise levels range from moderate to loud depending on the work area and equipment in operation.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Employees are required to comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements. This includes the consistent use of company‑issued flame‑resistant (FR) uniforms, including long‑sleeve shirts and pants, and all required personal protective equipment (PPE) based on job duties and hazard assessments. Employees must be able to safely perform work in areas requiring respiratory protection, fall protection, confined space entry, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and other process safety procedures common to a chemical manufacturing environment.
