Job summary

Asheville Regional Airport is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Technician to perform routine repair, preventative maintenance and landscaping work to keep airport grounds, plants and grass in optimum condition.

The role includes mowing, operating lawnmowers and tractors, snow removal, and supporting maintenance crews with painting, lighting, and general tasks as needed. A valid driver's license and pesticide license are required, with endorsement within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Three to six months landscaping experience or education preferred.
• Must obtain Airfield endorsement within 90 days of employment.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Forklift certification required.
• Current pesticide license within six months of employment date.

Responsibilities

• Performs landscaping maintenance tasks around taxiways and facilities, including mowing grass.
• Operates lawnmowers, trimmers, edgers, tractors, and sweepers for grounds upkeep.
• Supports maintenance activities and ensures equipment and facilities are in good condition.

Position Summary

(Primary Function)

Perform routine repair, maintenance, preventative maintenance and landscaping support to assure that airport grounds, landscaped areas, plants, shrubs, and grass are maintained in optimum condition.

Position Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Performs a variety of landscaping maintenance tasks around taxiways, runway lights, terminal and safety office buildings, which includes mowing and raking grass.
• Operates equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, edgers, tractors, sweepers to maintain airport terminal grounds.
• Participates in a variety of grounds keeping, landscaping, airfield maintenance, and equipment maintenance activities. Maintains airport equipment and facilities are in good working condition.
• Operates motorized equipment for snow removal from roadways, sidewalks, and steps.
• Participates in a variety of landscaping activities including moving, planting, fertilizing, mulching, weeding, trimming, pesticide application, irrigation, etc.
• Operates large motorized equipment such as tractor mowers, slope mowers, weed eaters, backhoe, snow blowers, street sweepers, side walk sweepers, loaders, and wood chippers.
• Washes and cleans equipment.
• Works from daily and/or weekly work plans approved by supervisor.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance for landscaped areas including fence repair and keeping curbs and streets clean.
• Assists with duties of all maintenance employees as needed.
• Assists other maintenance employees with painting, snow removal, runway lighting needs, and other tasks where necessary.
• Is a member of the snow team and works extended snow/ice removal events including nights and weekends to keep all roadways, sidewalks, pedestrian areas, as well as the runway, taxiways, and ramp areas clear of snow/ice in compliance with FAA Part 139 standards.
• Complies with all applicable OSHA and EPA regulations within area of responsibility, and assures control and proper disposal of hazardous chemicals, substances, and wastes as required.
• Maintains current knowledge of Greater Asheville Regional Airport policies, regulations and safety procedures.
• Performs related tasks as needed and assigned.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required or any combination of education and experience that produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Experience Requirements

Three to six months landscaping experience or education preferred.

Experience and qualifications to operate tractors, large equipment, and a variety of mowers.

Airport Maintenance Experience, Preferred.

Licenses/Certifications/Training Required

Valid drivers license.

Must obtain Airfield drivers endorsement within 90 days of employment.

Fork-lift operators certification.

Must possess a current pesticide license within six months of employment date.
