The role spans troubleshooting, repairs, and calibration across electrical, mechanical, and automation systems in a cGMP environment; 1–2 years' experience and CMMS familiarity are preferred. On-site in a regulated facility with safety-first culture.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of maintenance experience on automated manufacturing equipment.

Job description

Overview

This is where your work makes a difference. The Maintenance Technician I is a salaried, non‑exempt position that ensures the safe and efficient operation of plant manufacturing equipment through hands‑on maintenance and maintenance‑related initiatives. The role supports plant production by troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and systems through preventative maintenance procedures and root‑cause analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on medical IV solution, filling, and packaging manufacturing equipment, hydraulics, pneumatic systems, motor and machine controls, electrical systems, robotics, and electronics.
  • Use a drawing package, multimeter, and other diagnostic equipment to resolve electrical issues.
  • Resolve issues related to equipment, process, and compliance; perform unscheduled maintenance and respond to trouble calls promptly.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance tasks to keep equipment operational.
  • Work safely and follow Arc Flash, Lock‑out/Tag‑out, Basic Electrical Safety, Ladder Safety, and other plant programs.
  • Document all work in the CMMS and follow Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and other Baxter policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to environmental health and safety (EHS) and manufacturing SOP, policies, and procedures to ensure safe and quality products.
  • Collaborate with EHS to ensure compliance with global requirements.
  • Perform modifications, upgrades, and new installations of equipment and machinery.
  • Participate in department and site continuous improvement projects.
  • Perform other tasks as required to support plant production.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school training preferred.
  • 1–2 years of prior maintenance experience on automated manufacturing machines/equipment.
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); Maximo preferred.
  • Familiarity with programmable logic controller (PLC) systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron); SCADA/EMS/BMS experience preferred.
  • Experience with motor controls, variable speed/frequency drives, servos, stepper motors, high‑speed packaging equipment, and pneumatic systems.
  • Capable of reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, building drawings, and part diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of photo eyes/sensors, limit switches, proximity sensors, temperature controllers, inkjet printers, and vision systems (Cognex, Keyence preferred).
  • Experience troubleshooting high‑speed manufacturing/filling and packaging equipment, including pick‑and‑place systems, conveyors, pneumatic, hydraulic, and continuous inkjet printing systems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; understanding of cGMP regulations and procedural writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, email, and PDF documentation.
  • Electrical knowledge and experience with AC/DC motors and drives, electrical systems up to 480V 3‑phase, relays, switches, sensors, solenoids, servo motors, low‑voltage systems.
  • Must work in a clean‑room environment wearing special garments and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Work around moving equipment.
  • Work in Class I, II, III, or IV controlled environments that may require safety glasses, ear plugs, hairnet, beard cover, isolation mask, gown, hood, boots or shoe covers, face shield, insulated gloves, and disposable gloves.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, climb, reach above and below shoulder level, twist and bend at the neck and waist, and maintain balance.
  • Normal visual acuity with color discrimination.
