Job summary

Crossroads YMCA is seeking a Technician I to keep facilities running safely at multiple YMCA locations. The role involves traveling between properties, performing and documenting maintenance work on equipment, systems, and components, and supporting risk management and safety programs.

The Technician I will operate with minimal supervision, maintain safety standards, and communicate changes to staff while supporting a positive member experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years maintenance or technical field experience required.
  • Pool maintenance experience preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups and provide safe, quality service.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills; able to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, constructs, installs, and removes facility equipment and systems.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions and documents corrective actions and history.
  • Maintains grounds, inventory, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Uses work orders to track equipment history and job progress.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and safety inspections per procedures.
  • Communicates changes in technology, laws, or safety practices to staff.

Pay starting at $16.00 per hour and up based on experience

POSITION SUMMARY

The Technician I provides leadership to and is responsible for general mechanical construction and maintenance services for YMCA facilities. The Technician I will travel between YMCA properties and provide support by completing and documenting assigned work facility equipment, systems, and components. The Technician I will serve as a resource for risk management and safety and will ensure the safety of staff and members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Designs, constructs, installs, and removes various facility equipment, systems, and components.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions in the facility's equipment, systems, or components and takes appropriate corrective and preventative actions. Provides supporting documentation of processes.
  • Provides upkeep of the grounds to ensure that litter, equipment, and debris is out of sight and properly stored.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of replacement equipment and systems.
  • Utilizes work order system to track, report, monitor and communicate the recording of equipment, system, and component history and work.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspections on facility equipment, systems, and components in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Inform staff of changes in technology, laws, codes, or regulations about general facility maintenance and safety.
  • Document audits and coaching as necessary of departments, vendors, and contractors on their performance to ensure quality work and prompt maintenance of an environment that is supportive of a positive experience.
  • Maintain and support safety efforts through properties audits, staff training and required certifications. Serving as a resource for Risk Management and Safety for the branch.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other appropriate individuals and branches.
  • Additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Technical education in related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years maintenance or technical field experience is required.
  • Pool maintenance is strongly preferred. Certified Pool Operator or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adept computer skills.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
  • Use hands and fingers, handle/use objects, tools and controls.
  • Safely navigate ladders, confined spaces, roof tops and crawl spaces.
  • Exposed to outdoor elements at times.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
