Job summary

LB Foster is seeking a Maintenance Technician I in Birmingham, AL. You will perform preventative maintenance on equipment, follow PM schedules, and troubleshoot issues to keep production running safely and efficiently.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and some manufacturing maintenance experience; a technical college background is a plus. The role requires hands-on skills with mechanical and electrical systems and a willingness to work occasional nights or weekends.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Technical college degree is a plus.
  • 1 year of maintenance experience in manufacturing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on engines, motors, conveyors, and production machines; follow diagrams and manuals.
  • Read and interpret work instructions; execute tasks per PM schedules.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment; follow 5S standards and safety rules.
  • Assist installation of new production equipment and infrastructure.
  • Complete pre-operation equipment inspections and report issues identified.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions and locate sources of problems by observing equipment in operation.
  • Prepare maintenance reports collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Participate in Safe Start meetings and adhere to procedures and regulations.
  • Read and interpret instructions; set up and operate basic machine tools as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job description

As a Maintenance Technician I, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance on all equipment products while following standard work methods and practicing safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. Duties include preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in all safe start meetings.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
  • Follow 5S standards to maintain work area.
  • Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance based on PM schedule.
  • Locate sources of problems by observing and listening to mechanical devices in operation
  • Complete pre-operation equipment inspections and report any issues identified.
  • Trained to set up, adjust, and operate all basic machine tools.
  • Prepare maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Assists with the installation of new production equipment and required infrastructure
  • Read and interpret work instructions, then execute work per instructions
  • Other duties as required.
Experience And Skills
  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Related degree from a technical college, a plus
  • 1 year of proven maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment or internship while attending technical college preferred
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems maintenance
  • Proficient with hand and power tools
  • Ability to read and use tape measure

  • Ability to use respirators (will have to be clean shaven on occasion)

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment safely and efficiently
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
