Related Affordable Housing is seeking a Maintenance Technician - Helper A in Chicago, IL. This on-site role supports residents by handling plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry tasks to keep buildings safe and inviting.

You will work with a dedicated team, rotate on-call shifts, and help prepare units for occupancy. You’ll develop your maintenance skills, contribute to safe community spaces, and benefit from union programs and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in general maintenance or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems.
  • Affordable housing experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to participate in the emergency on-call rotation as needed.
  • Willingness to embrace feedback and continuously improve.
  • Strong belief in teamwork and collaboration.
  • Reliable and committed to doing the right thing at all times.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Demonstrates accountability and reliability by taking full ownership of projects and outcomes, prioritizing precision and attention to detail, and approaching challenges with grit, resilience, and proactive problem-solving, while continuously engaging in learning and development to enhance performance; fosters collaboration and a resident-centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete service requests in a timely manner and interact with residents to ensure their needs are met.
  • Prepare vacant units to occupancy standards within established time frames
  • Inspect property mechanical systems and grounds, addressing safety issues immediately with management.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
  • Perform cleaning and upkeep of common areas and grounds.
  • Assist in emergency repairs as directed by supervisors and rotate on-call for emergency maintenance.
  • Maintain an inventory of maintenance supplies and report any shortages.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance activities in partnership with the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Anticipated salary range: $27.23 per hour

  • This position is Non-Exempt, meaning eligible for overtime pay

This range is provided as a general guideline and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary depending on a variety of factors, including the candidate’s qualifications, geographical location, and the specific responsibilities of the role. In addition to salary, this position may be eligible for performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Final compensation offers will be determined following a thorough assessment of the candidate’s background and the requirements of the position.
