Job summary

Canyon County in Caldwell, Idaho is seeking a maintenance technician to perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance on county buildings, equipment, and utilities. The role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and operates in public buildings, detention facilities, outdoors, often on rooftops and in adverse weather.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, repairs, remodels, and repairs on electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and metal structures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years facility maintenance experience preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training considered.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, repair, and installation on electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and related systems.
  • Remodels and construction work on county buildings.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Paint and graffiti removal tasks.
  • Maintain restrooms and facilities.
  • Weld and fabricate metal structures as needed.
  • Repair and replace locks.
  • Follow county policies and safety practices.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and service work on county buildings, equipment and utilities; performs related work as required. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The principal duties of this class are performed in a public building environment, detention facilities and outdoors and may include working on rooftops and in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & Repair
  • Performs scheduled maintenance, repair, and installation work on electrical, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and plumbing systems
  • Performs maintenance, repair, and construction work on county buildings, including remodels
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical and plumbing systems
  • Performs painting and graffiti removal duties
  • Performs maintenance and repair work on restrooms and facilities
  • Welds and fabricate metal structures and systems as needed
  • Repairs and replaces locks
  • Other Duties:
  • Performs all work duties and activities following county policies, procedures, and safety practices
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

  • Building trade skills, including but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, pneumatic, and electrical systems, welding and fabrication methods and techniques, and hand tools
  • Operate power equipment, including but not limited to, drills, saws, rivet gun, grinder, and snow removal equipment
  • Methods, materials, tools and standard practices regarding painting, plumbing, electrical, and construction and repair related to interior and exterior building maintenance, repair, and remodeling
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical, plumbing, and construction codes, Federal (OSHA) regulations and county policies regarding safe work practices relating to use of power tools, ladders and power lifts, and hazardous chemicals
  • Work cooperatively and constructively with fellow workers and members of the public to provide public service of the highest quality and quantity
  • Follow written and oral instructions
  • Prepare written reports, including work orders and maintenance logs
  • Communicate effectively with the public and other employees

Special Qualifications

  • Valid Idaho Driver’s License
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation
  • Become CPR and First Aid Certified

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency required
  • One to three years facility maintenance experience is preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work may be considered

  • Clear speech with or without an accommodation, to effectively convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly and/or quickly
  • Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Visual acuity, with or without an accommodation, to read instructions, review and organize documents
  • Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs
