Job summary

Ardent Mills is seeking a Maintenance Technician II / Welder Mechanic B to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations on pneumatic and mechanical equipment within the Operations department.

The role requires welding certification, ability to read drawings, and experience with computerized maintenance systems. Overtime and emergency response are expected due to plant operations.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma in Mechanical Maintenance and Welding with 5–7 years of experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and diagrams.
  • Ability to operate computer systems for maintenance and diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain pneumatic and mechanical equipment including motors and conveyors.
  • Repair and replace defective parts per manufacturer specs.
  • Test, reprogram and adjust equipment as needed to ensure proper operation.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance records and respond to emergency calls.

Position: Maintenance Technician II / Welder Mechanic B

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Department: Operations

Summary

Responsible for performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations on pneumatic and mechanical equipment, including motors, tools, pneumatic or hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, production and milling machinery, and related operational systems, according to manufacturer specifications and instructions. The employee must perform duties accurately and efficiently to ensure equipment and systems remain operational without interruption.

Primary Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Must be capable of operating and understanding computer systems, determining repair and/or maintenance needs, and operating equipment to verify proper functionality.

Must hold a valid welding certification.

Observe mechanical parts and equipment in operation and listen to unusual sounds to identify problem areas that may affect operations.

Disassemble machinery components and equipment for inspection, remove defective parts, and install replacement parts in working condition.

Examine the shape and texture of mechanical parts to detect imperfections.

Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

Adjust functional parts, equipment, and control instruments.

Repair and replace defective or damaged parts according to manufacturer specifications and instructions. Install functional parts and accessories.

Clean, polish, and lubricate machinery (interior and exterior) according to the preventive maintenance schedule.

Test parts, accessories, and equipment to verify proper operation according to manufacturer specifications. Reprogram electronic or computerized systems when necessary.

Install and repair mechanical and pneumatic equipment and machinery and reprogram equipment as needed to ensure proper operation.

Test, maintain, and evaluate equipment and machinery performance using appropriate tools and instruments.

Maintain preventive maintenance records and ensure compliance with the preventive maintenance program by evaluating data generated daily through computerized systems.

Be available to respond to emergency calls related to system interruptions and report to the plant to resolve issues as needed.

Comply with occupational health and safety requirements, as well as company policies and regulatory agency requirements. Report any issues immediately to management.

Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.

Maintain all work areas clean and organized.

Work effectively as a team member.

Keep all required licenses, permits, and certifications current in accordance with company policies and regulations.

Perform other duties assigned by management in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Requirements

Education

Technical diploma in Mechanical Maintenance and Welding, plus five to seven years of experience in mechanical maintenance, pneumatic systems, and the repair and installation of sophisticated industrial equipment.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memoranda in Spanish.

Ability to effectively present information in small group meetings with team members.

Ability to interpret and work from drawings, blueprints, and diagrams.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate numbers and quantities such as ratios, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Ability to apply basic mathematical and physics concepts.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.

Ability to solve problems involving concrete variables encountered in normal work situations.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

Mechanic and Welder License.

Lockout/Tagout Training Certification.

Current TWIC Credential.

Confined Space Entry Training Certification.

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Training.

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Training.

Food Safety Plan Training.

Other Qualifications

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to work with computerized systems.

Knowledge of workplace hazards and potential risks and methods of self-protection.

Availability to work overtime, weekends, and respond immediately to emergency calls regarding equipment or system interruptions.

Ability to understand procedural manuals and instructions in both English and Spanish.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Team members must be clean-shaven when performing tasks that require respiratory protection, as the use of a respirator (including an N-95 dust mask) requires a proper facial seal to provide adequate protection.
