Job summary

Butterball Farms, Inc. is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to uphold the reliability of our production/processing facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

You will diagnose and repair electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, perform routine preventive maintenance, and document all work orders. You will collaborate with a team in a fast-paced environment, ensure safety compliance with GMPs and MIOSHA, oversee contractors, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • 3-5 years of hands‑on facility maintenance experience required.
  • EPA certification, HVAC/R experience preferred.
  • Welding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair structural, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Perform first-level quality checks on HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Complete and document work orders using the Redzone Reliability Module.
  • Advise the Maintenance Manager of identified issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with minor construction projects and facility upgrades.
  • Conduct audits related to preventative maintenance.
  • Monitor and respond to building safety and security concerns.
  • Coordinate and oversee on-site vendors and contractors.
  • Maintain documentation of inspections, repairs, and issues.
  • Organize storage of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Manage and order maintenance inventory and supplies.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with policies, OSHA/MIOSHA regulations and local codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and perform general maintenance and repair of:
    • Structural and building fabric
    • Electrical (high and low voltage, single phase, and three phase)
    • Plumbing (leaks, clogs, faucets, toilets, drains)
  • Perform first-level quality checks on HVAC, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Complete and document work orders and preventive maintenance tasks using the Redzone Reliability Module
  • Advise the Maintenance Manager of identified issues and improvement opportunities
  • Assist with minor construction projects and facility upgrades
  • Conduct audits related to preventative maintenance
  • Monitor and respond to building safety and security concerns

Requirements
Education / Certificates / Licenses / Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Drivers License
  • 3-5 years of hands‑on facility maintenance experience required

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to troubleshoot high, low, and control voltage systems

  • Knowledge of food manufacturing sanitary design preferred
