Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Maintenance Technician 2 to perform advanced maintenance across the main hospital, ED, and clinics. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical gas systems, ensuring safety and uptime.

The role requires at least 3 years of facility maintenance experience in healthcare, a high school diploma or GED, and a Florida driver’s license. On‑call standby may be required to respond to emergencies and support a safe patient

Description

The Maintenance Technician 2 performs general maintenance functions for the main hospital, free standing emergency department and clinics. The Maintenance Technician 2 is responsible for performing skilled and advanced maintenance duties to ensure the proper functioning of hospital building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas systems, and general facilities equipment. This position involves more complex maintenance tasks compared to an entry-level technician, as well as supervising and mentoring Maintenance Technician 1 staff. The technician will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain systems to minimize downtime and ensure a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for hospital patients, staff, and visitors. Must be able to be on standby call as assigned.

Essential Functions

Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs on hospital systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection systems, and medical gas systems.

Conduct routine and preventive maintenance tasks on complex equipment and systems, ensuring proper operation and extending their life.

Perform calibration and adjustments on equipment and systems to ensure optimal functionality.

Conduct detailed inspections of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and identify potential issues that require attention.

Assist in implementing facility upgrades, replacements, or renovations to improve operational efficiency and patient safety.

Respond promptly to emergency repair requests, such as system failures, equipment malfunctions, and urgent facility issues.

Diagnose and resolve maintenance problems in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital operations.

Provide guidance and on-the-job training to Maintenance Technician 1 staff, ensuring that tasks are performed to hospital standards and in accordance with safety protocols.

Monitor the work of junior technicians and assist in resolving any technical challenges they may face during daily tasks.

Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and hospital-specific standards (e.g., NFPA, Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.).

Enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper safety measures during maintenance operations.

Work closely with other departments to schedule maintenance and repair activities, ensuring minimal disruption to patient care and hospital operations.

Use and maintain a variety of advanced tools, equipment, and machinery required for maintenance tasks.

Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and storage of tools and equipment.

Oversee inventory control of materials and supplies used for maintenance activities and ensure

Work Experience
  • Requires minimum of 3 years facility maintenance/hospital experience
  • Also able to run and test equipment i.e. generator, boilers, chillers, motors
  • Able to complete Fire Drills, participate in disaster drills
  • Able to close out documents on the computer software system
