Job summary

Olympic Steel Inc. seeks a skilled Maintenance Technician to keep production lines safe and productive in our Chambersburg area facility.

You will perform diversified maintenance, read electrical and mechanical schematics, operate forklifts, and participate in preventive programs with a focus on reliability and uptime.

This full-time role requires a High School diploma, willingness to learn hydraulics and PLCs, and the ability to work flexible shifts in a heavy industrial setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Strong desire to learn different areas of maintenance, including hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, PLCs, and electrical maintenance
• Previous experience in a heavy industrial setting strongly preferred
• Previous experience with hand tools and precision instruments a plus
• Experience with forklifts or other PITs strongly preferred
• General knowledge of crane operation and ancillary lifting devices
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics and equipment drawings
• Flexibility of work schedule
• Working knowledge of general computer programs

• Maintain, repair, and improve machinery, equipment and warehouse facility in a safe and timely manner
• Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of production machines
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production
• Conduct regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and warehouse facility
• Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and adjust
• Read and interpret manuals and work orders
• Maintain a daily log of completed tasks
• Report maintenance issues to supervision promptly

Job Description

• Physically performs highly diversified duties to maintain, repair, and improve machinery, equipment and warehouse facility in a safe and timely manner
• Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to: mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines
• Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production
• Conducts regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and warehouse facility as required
• Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and makes adjustments
• Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
• Participates in troubleshooting and maintenance of production and warehouse assets
• Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
• Detects faulty operations and defective material and report those and any unusual situations to supervision
• Performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions
• Maintains a daily log of completed tasks
• Reports all maintenance issues to supervision promptly
• Understands and can explain the company’s Quality Policy, job description and required tasks and explain how this position impacts customer satisfaction and contributes to fulfilling Quality Policy
• Conducts housekeeping for personal work area and shared facility space
• Participates and fulfills the requirements of scheduled training and educational programs as identified for this position
• Participates as requested for independent objective auditing activity and supports continuous improvement activities
• May perform daily, weekly, and other routine maintenance and housekeeping on machines and equipment in work area
• Understands and uses related production documents as required by position and/or procedures
• Uses a calculator, conversion charts and basic math skills to calculate sizes, weights, and metric conversions
• May work at different workstations as production needs require
