Job summary

United Rentals is seeking a Fleet Technician I to perform refurbishment, repairs, and rental-ready prep on mobile storage containers, ground-level offices, and modular offices. You’ll follow standard work instructions, perform general repairs, cleaning, and prep, and escalate non-standard issues to other technicians or management.

This entry-level role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred with general mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to read and follow standard work instructions and checklists.
• Willingness to learn and follow procedures with attention to quality.
• Strong teamwork and customer service mindset for internal/external customers.
• Effective verbal and written communication and time management.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to operate fleet equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine repairs and refurbishment on mobile storage equipment following standard procedures.
• Follow work instructions and checklists for repair activities and maintenance.
• Escalate non-standard issues or complex diagnostics to technicians or supervision.
• Inspect equipment and document work using mobile apps and work orders.
• Remove and install decals and equipment numbers as required.
• Show and exhibit fleet to customers when needed.

What You’ll Do

• Perform routine repairs and refurbishment on mobile storage equipment by following standard procedures and work instructions.


• Perform repetitive repairs following standard procedures: door and lock adjustments, minor hardware replacement, basic caulking and sealing, paint touch-ups, general interior/exterior repairs, repair of subfloor, tile, roof, walls, doors, windows, swapping wheels, tires, and axles, etc.


• Complete general maintenance tasks: filter replacement, cleaning and preparation etc.


• Follow standard work instructions and checklists for all repair activities


• Remove and install decals and equipment numbers


• Complete assignments as documented on Work Orders within established timeframes


• Escalate non standard issues or complex diagnostics to other technicians or management


• Complete equipment inspections and documentation accurately using required mobile applications.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent


• Entry-level position with general construction, maintenance, or mechanical experience preferred


• Willingness to learn and follow standard procedures


• Trade skill training preferred or equivalent years of experience


• General mechanical aptitude and tool knowledge


• Ability to read and follow work instructions and checklists


• Strong attention to detail for quality repairs


• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record


• Verbal and written communication skills


• Construction knowledge and background preferred


• Teamwork and customer service skills


• Demonstrated time management skills


• Ability to utilize required information technology


• Working knowledge of heavy equipment, tools, and manufacturers’ warranty process


• Accurately record time and materials used for proper work order completion
