Job summary

Xerxes is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Tipton, IA to support reliable operation of plant equipment and facilities. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production assets and assist in asset management workflows.

The role requires a High School diploma, 3 years as a Journeyman Millwright/Welder, the ability to read wiring diagrams, and strong problem-solving with English communication.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman Millwright/Welder with a minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance practices involving mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, and building systems.
  • Experience reading wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and maintenance documentation.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment used in production of underground storage tanks and related accessories.
  • Support the Asset Management Program by maintaining active assets and improving overall equipment reliability.
  • Follow daily inspection routines based on reliability-centered maintenance practices, including testing, inspection, lubrication, adjustment, calibration, and tagging processes.
  • Manage condition-based preventative maintenance and perform functional testing following equipment refurbishment activities.
  • Lead and support refurbishment activities and assist in establishing and maintaining maintenance shop operations aligned with asset management workflows.
  • Maintain appropriate spare parts inventory and support sourcing of parts and materials.
  • Coordinate maintenance efforts with equipment suppliers and external partners as required.
  • Support maintenance of electrical, hydraulic, plumbing, compressed air, water, heating, cooling, and related facility systems throughout the plant.
  • Assist with maintenance of fire protection systems, static electricity arresters, and fire doors.
  • Rebuild, repair, and adjust portable tools, lift trucks, heaters, and other production equipment as needed.
  • Accurately maintain purchase logs, maintenance records, process sheets, and related documentation.
  • Participate in daily maintenance meetings focused on safety, equipment breakdowns, preventative maintenance activities, and projects.
  • Follow established maintenance procedures, asset management workflows, and health and safety requirements.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues and support repair activities to minimize downtime.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of plant equipment and facilities. This position supports the Asset Management and Maintenance Program by performing maintenance and repair activities that improve equipment reliability, reduce operational variation, and contribute to achieving goals of zero accidents, zero defects, and zero breakdowns. The role is instrumental in maintaining efficient production operations and supporting long-term asset performance.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Ability to learn and adapt to new tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on varying shifts as required.
  • Availability to work overtime, weekends, and variable schedules when required.
Preferred
  • Forklift certification or experience.
  • Fall Protection certification.
  • Aerial Lift certification or experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, crouch, kneel, lift, push, pull, climb, and reach.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform physically demanding maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environments with noise, dust, fibers, moving equipment, temperature variations, and chemical or solvent fumes.
