Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a part-time Maintenance Technician in Tacoma, WA. You will perform preventative, routine and emergency maintenance on the building and program equipment, including pools and HVAC systems. Strong independent work and leadership on tasks are expected.

Five years of relevant trade experience, certifications preferred, and ability to pass background checks are required. YMCA benefits apply, with flexible scheduling around activities.

Qualifications

• Five years’ experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, or other specialty skill areas.
• Vocational/Technical certifications preferred.
• An intermediate understanding of buildings and the operation and maintenance of building systems.
• Knowledge of pool maintenance and operation, and possession of a pool operator’s certification (or ability to obtain one).
• Demonstrated skills in organization, time management, and coordination of workload.
• Must pass Background and Reference checks per WA State Fair Chance Act.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusive environment.
• Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative, routine and emergency maintenance for the building, its support systems and program equipment.
• Operate and maintain the swimming and hydrotherapy pools at functioning levels.
• Operate and maintain the heating and air conditioning systems to ensure member satisfaction.
• Perform routine and emergency maintenance repairs as needed.
• Maintain product inventory listings, Material Safety Data Sheets.
• Ensure YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

Job description

Wage: $ 22.91 to $35.37 per hour (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

As The Maintenance Technician, you will work independently on preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance for the building, building support systems, and membership program equipment. If hired, you will be responsible for performing custodial and grounds-keeping tasks as necessary to maintain a clean and pleasing appearance of the building.

Qualifications:

• Five years’ experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, or other specialty skill areas. Demonstrated excellent skills and the ability to work independently and provide leadership with specific tasks.
• Vocational/Technical certifications preferred.
• An intermediate understanding of buildings and the operation and maintenance of building systems.
• Knowledge of safe and correct operation of the equipment, procedures, and techniques to perform the required tasks.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment. Understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment. Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
• Knowledge of pool maintenance and operation, safety regulations and possession of a pool operator’s certification. If not in possession of one, can obtain one as soon as the training course is available.
• Demonstrated skills in organization, time management, and coordination of workload
• Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
